Road work on Canyon Road on Monday

Traffic on Canyon Road will be disrupted on Monday for work on an electrical project. The east-most lane will be blocked in front of and to the south of Circle K. The Circle K entrance and Starbucks exit will be temporarily altered.


Sleeping Beauty performed this weekend

The Central Washington Dance Academy performs “Sleeping Beauty” this weekend at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. There will be performances at 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $17.


Climate panel discussion on Friday

The Lion Rock Visiting Writing Series hosts a climate change panel discussion at noon, today at the Ellensburg Public Library. The discussion, titled Impact of Climate Change on the Youth: Being Optimistic vs. Being Pessimistic will feature author Roy Scranton, KEEN president Jill Scheffer, EHS science teacher Jeff Hashimoto, EHS student Gwynn Scoville with moderator CWU professor Pamela McMullin-Messier.


Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday

Kittitas County’s Drug Take Back and Paper Shred Day is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at Comprehensive Health of Central Washington on East Mountain View Avenue. People can bring expired or unused medications to be properly recycled. The Kittitas County Health Network sponsors the event.


Walk with wildflowers on Saturday

The Wild Horse Wind Facility hosts Wildflower and Wind Power Walks on Saturday. There will be a wind turbine tour, wildflower presentation and cross-country hike through the blooming shrub-steppe. RSVP information for the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. sessions is on the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility and Renewable Energy Center website.


Piano extravaganza on Sunday

CWU’s inaugural Piano Extravaganza is at 3 p.m., Sunday in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. The event features Central keyboard faculty, graduating pianists and special guests, the Ellensburg Dance Ensemble. Tickets are $15 for general admission.


Wildfire preparation open house on Tuesday

Puget Sound Energy presents a wildfire plan open house at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center. The presentation will show how public feedback was incorporated into PSE’s wildfire mitigation program and public safety power shutoff plan.


SPORTS

Bulldogs 5K Run-Walk is Saturday

The Bulldogs 5K Run/Walk is at 9 a.m., Saturday at Rotary Park. The event is a fundraiser for Morgan Middle School students. Registration information is on the Morgan Facebook page.

 

Run Like the Wind is on Sunday

The Run Like the Wind Running Festival starts at 9:15 a.m. Sunday at the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility. The festival includes a 5K, 10K and 10-miler and a free kids dash along the wind farm's trails, paths and roads. The event benefits Kittitas County Search and Rescue.

 

Home games this weekend

The Ellensburg High School baseball hosts Grandview in a doubleheader at 11 a.m., Saturday at Rotary Park. The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School baseball and softball teams welcome squads from White Swan with doubleheaders starting at 11:30 a.m.

 

LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is beef meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 63 degrees. Sunset is at 8:07 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 42 degrees. Winds will be 10 to 15 mph. The weekend forecast calls for highs of 59 on Saturday and 59 on Sunday.
