Hoedown and Ribfest is Saturday

The Ellensburg Downtown Association’s Hoedown in the Downtown and the Rodeo City Ribfest by Smokey’ BBQ are Saturday and Sunday at Unity Park downtown Ellensburg. Chance McKinney headlines the Hoedown performing Saturday night. Jukebox Central and Kitty Mae are the opening acts. The ribfest competition and judging starts at noon Saturday. Rodeo City Ribfest “Kids Que” will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday and features watermelon and pie eating contests, family games and activities.


Rodeo Hall of Fame induction on Saturday

The Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is from 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday at Spirit Therapeutic Riding Center on Sorenson Road. This year’s inductees are the Eaton Family, Dave Brock and Charles Pogue. Ticket information is on the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame website.


Gallery One hosts Pecha Kucha Friday

Gallery One hosts Pecha Kucha: There’s No Place Like Home from 6 to 9 p.m., tonight. The event features community members speaking on what home means to them. Following the presentation, audience members will be invited to share an image of what home means to them. Pecha Kucha’s are short, concise presentations of 20 images.


“Barbie” to be shown Saturday

“Barbie” will be shown in the Roslyn Yard Summer Nights Film Series at sunset on Saturday at the Roslyn Yard. The outdoor showing is free.


Senior Lounge needs volunteers

The Senior Lounge at the Kittitas County Fair needs volunteers. The lounge is a welcoming, air-conditioned environment, with soft-cushioned chairs for seniors to kick up their feet and relax. Volunteer shifts are in two-hour increments from late morning to early evening. Volunteers receive a free pass to the fair. Contact the Adult Activities Center for more information. The county fair is from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2.


Paddle with pups on Sunday

The annual Doggie Paddle at the Pool is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool. People can bring their well-behaved dog to the pool for a swim. Admission is $6 per dog or free with a pet food donation. Humans do not swim with the dogs. This event precedes the closure and cleaning of the pool in the week leading to Labor Day.


SPORTS

Bulldog Bowl

Ellensburg High School’s football team will line up against a collection of alumni players and dads in a flag football game at 7:30 p.m., tonight, at Andreotti Field. This is a free family-friendly event.


Wildcat soccer and volleyball host exhibition matches

Fans will get a chance to see the Central Washington University soccer and volleyball teams in exhibition matches this week and weekend. The Wildcat soccer team hosts the University of British Columbia at 5 p.m., Friday, and the University of Victoria at noon, Sunday. The Wildcats volleyball team welcomes Eastern Washington University for an exhibition match at 1 p.m., Saturday.


Fall sports practices start

High School football practices are underway with the remaining high school athletic teams starting this coming week. Cross country, girls soccer, volleyball and swimming practices all begin Monday.

 

LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with guacamole, a broccoli salad and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 69 degrees. Sunset is at 7:59 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 52 degrees. Winds will be 10 to 30 mph. The chance of rain is 40 to 50 percent. The weekend forecast calls for highs of 66 on Saturday, and 77 on Sunday.
