NEWS

Band taking to the road

After a week of band camp, the Ellensburg High School marching band will take to the streets this coming week to prepare for the Ellensburg Rodeo Parade. Tune in to the morning show each day next week for an update on what neighborhood the band will visit that night.


Teen event set for Friday

The 509 Teens Back to School Bash is at 6 p.m., Friday at West Ellensburg Park. The event is for 13 to 17-year-olds and will feature games, music, food and raffle prizes. The Kittitas County Recovery Community Organization sponsors the bash.


Ribbon cutting on Friday

The ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the Elk Kitchen and Wine Bar at the Windrow Hotel is from 4 to 5 p.m., Friday.


Work on the trail on Saturday

Volunteers have the opportunity to take part in the Table Mountain Trail Work starting at 9:30 p.m., Saturday. Volunteers are asked to wear close-toe shoes, and long pants, to bring at least a liter of water and snacks, and to gather at the Ken Wilcox Horse Camp parking lot. Tools and safety gear will be provided by the event organizer, Mountains to Sound Greenway.


Mini Mercantile grand opening Saturday

The grand opening for Mini Mercantile, a children’s and maternity consignment store in downtown Kittitas, starts at 10 a.m., Saturday.


“Strange World” showing at Roslyn Yard.

“Strange World” is showing at sunset on Saturday as part of the Roslyn Yard’s Summer Nights movies series. The movie is free.


Dogs' day at the pool

The annual Doggie Paddle at the Pool is from 6 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool. The dogs must be well-behaved and well-socialized with other dogs and non-family members, and be accompanied by a handler age 16 or older. The cost is $6 per dog or free with a pet food donation. The dog swim is the last pool use before it is closed for cleaning over the week leading up to Labor Day.


Cle Elum Fire Department offers smoke alarms

The Cle Elum Fire Department is now installing free smoke alarms from the American Red Cross. The sign up, send a Facebook message to the Cle Elum Volunteer Firefighters Association, or call 509-674-1748 to leave a message.


SPORTS

CWU football player earns honor

Central Washington University senior defensive back Patrick Rogers was selected to the D2Football.com Elite 100 Watch List for the coming season. This is the second during his career at CWU that Rogers has earned that honor. The Wildcats open their season on the road at Weber State at 5 p.m., Thursday.


EVENTS

Appearing on the PUNCH stage

The Punch Project Stage will host Low Hums and DJ Banshee on Saturday in Thorp. DJ Banshee goes on at 4 p.m. with Low Hums on at 6 p.m. The performances are free and open to all ages.

Hall of Fame dinner Saturday

The Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame will induct the class of 2023 into the hall at the induction banquet, starting at 5 p.m., Saturday in the Student Union Ballroom on the CWU campus. Joining the hall of fame this year are tie-down roper Cody Ohl, bullfighter Rob Smets and announcer Justin McKee.

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, country gravy, a roll, green beans and a banana. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.


WEATHER

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 85 degrees. Sunset is at 7:55 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 54 degrees. Winds will be from 5 to 10 mph. The forecasted highs for the weekend are 93 on Saturday and 96 on Sunday.
