City council works to adjust Reed Hill boundaries

The Ellensburg City Council approved a resolution adjusting the boundaries of the Reed Park hillside with the Kittitas Valley Event Center and setting the maintenance responsibilities between the city and Kittitas County. City Attorney Terry Weiner said there were boundary line errors dating back to the 1930s that required correction. The maintenance agreement addresses the erosion of the Craig’s Hill hillside into the event center property.


City grants more time for Pathways project

The completion date for the HopeSource Pathways Place project on the former Nites Inn Property on South Ruby Street has been extended to Dec. 31, 2026. The City Council approved the revision to the city’s affordable housing agreement with HopeSource to extend the completion date from Dec. 31, 2025. When completed, the project will feature 78 units in the remodeled hotel and three new buildings. It will be primarily studio apartments.


EHS Winter Musical opens this week

The Ellensburg High School Winter Musical, “Anything Goes” show at 7 p.m., tonight at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. The schedule includes 2 and 7 p.m. performances on Saturday, a 7 p.m. show on Feb. 28 and 2 and 7 p.m. shows on March 1. Tickets are $15 for general admission.


“Dracula” opens on Friday

The CWU Theatre Department production of “Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really,” premieres at 7:30 p.m., tonight in the Milo Smith Theatre. There also are performances on Saturday, Sunday, Feb. 28, March 1 and 2. Tickets are available on the CWU Theatre website.


 Winter Faculty Showcase is Friday

The CWU Music Department's Winter Faculty Showcase is at 7 p.m., tonight, in the McIntyre Music Building. Seven faculty performers will be featured. Admission is free but donations are accepted for the Music Department.


The Enterprise Challenge deadline extended

The deadline for the Enterprise Challenge has been extended to today. Enterprise Challenge is a business plan competition open to new and emerging companies in Kittitas County. The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event and entry information is on the chamber’s website.


Coast Guard Band to perform at CWU

The United States Coast Guard Band presents a free concert at 7 p.m., Sunday the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is part of the Coast Guard Band’s Centennial Celebration Concert Tour, marking the 100-year milestone for the ensemble. The program features wind band favorites, virtuosic soloists, patriotic classics, marches, and new music by American composers. Tickets are free and available on the CWU website.

 

County health offers vaccine clinics

The Kittitas County Health Department is offering a series of five childhood vaccines clinics with the first from  8 a.m. to noon, Monday at 507 N. Nanum St. The other clinics will be on March 3, 10, 18 and 31 at the same time and location. There is no cost for the vaccines. Call 509-962-7515 to schedule an appointment.

 

Central grad to lead YSO

CWU graduate Sam McClung has been named executive director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. For the past four seasons, McClung has been in artistic and administrative positions with Santa Fe Pro Musica. After graduating from CWU in 2020, he went on to earn a master’s of music at the University of New Mexico.

 

SPORTS

Central hoops host final regular season home stand

CWU basketball hosts its final regular season home stand on Saturday against St. Martin’s with the women’s game at 4 p.m. and the men's at 6:15 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a fried chicken bowl with country gravy, a biscuit, mixed vegetables and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 42 degrees. Sunset is at 5:36 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 32 degrees. Winds will be light and variable. There is a 40 percent chance of rain overnight. The weekend forecast calls for highs of 47 on Saturday and 52 on Sunday.
