How to dispose of Christmas Tree

Wilderness Ridge will take away your Christmas tree for free today. The company chips the trees. Message Ben at 509-674-8161 with your address to arrange for the pickup. Trees also can be disposed of for free at the Kittitas County Transfer Stations in Ellensburg and Cle Elum through the end of January.


Music on tap at CWU is coming

Central Washington University features multiple music events this coming week. Guest trombone artist Matt Lennex performs a recital at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the McIntyre Recital Hall. CWU students and faculty also will be featured. Seattle Symphony concertmaster Noah Geller will present a short performance of Dvorak and Handal/Halvorson at 6:30 p.m., Thursday in the McIntyre Recital Hall followed by a master class and possibly a question-and-answer session. A trio recital featuring CWU music alumnus Liam Cameron will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, in the McIntyre Recital Hall.


Library to celebrate its anniversary

The Ellensburg Public Library celebrates its 115th year anniversary from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, at the Hal Holmes Community Center. The celebration includes light refreshments, cake and live music by the Kael Bartness Trio.


Missoula Theatre comes to town in January

The Missoula Children’s Theater will stage “Treasure Island” on Jan. 25 at Hal Holmes Community Center. On Jan. 20 the theatre company will hold a series of free workshops for children in grades K to 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. Auditions are from 4 to 6 p.m. for grades K-12 on Jan. 21. There is a $45 fee for those who receive roles in the production.


SPORTS

High school basketball set for weekend

In high school basketball this weekend, Ellensburg is home tonight against Selah with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs travel to East Valley on Saturday with the girls’ game at 3:30 p.m., and the boys at 5 p.m.Kittitas hosts Highland tonight with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. The Coyotes play at La Salle on Saturday with the boys’ game at 7 p.m. The girls’ game was canceled. Cle Elum-Roslyn hosts White Swan tonight with the boys at 5:30 p.m. and the girls at 7 p.m., and welcome Highland on Saturday with the girls at 3:30 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.


3-on-3 registration ends Friday

Registration for Adult 3-on-3 Basketball closes today. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The league is open to men and women over the age of 16. Individuals can register and be placed on a free agent list. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


CWU hoops on the road this weekend

CWU’s basketball teams are on the road this weekend. The men’s team plays Alaska-Anchorage at 8 p.m., Saturday. The women play Western Washington at 7 p.m., Saturday.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is roast fennel pork, rice Pilaf, green beans, a roll and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 42 degrees. Sunset is at 4:32 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 35 degrees. Winds will be 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts possible. There is a 50 percent chance of rain during the day. The weekend forecast calls for 41 on Saturday and 42 on Sunday.
