Closures for MLK Day
Schools and government offices will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The Ellensburg City Council has changed its meeting from Monday to Tuesday.
Music on tap at CWU is coming
A trio recital featuring CWU music alumnus Liam Cameron will be held at 6 p.m., today, in the McIntyre Recital Hall.
“Twilight” and stalker awareness
“Twilight” will be shown 7 p.m., tonight, in the SURC Theatre as part of a stalker awareness program. Viewers will use green and red flags to point out healthy and unhealthy relationship signs during the movie. The movie is free for CWU students and $5 for the general public.
Museum exhibit opens Saturday
The “Roots of Wisdom: Native Knowledge, Shared Science,” exhibit opens Saturday at the CWU Museum of Culture and Environment. The exhibit shares how four native cultures are improving the world using their traditional knowledge in conjunction with modern science and technology. Roots of Wisdom was designed for ages 9-14, but can be enjoyed by everyone. An opening event for the exhibit will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Missoula Theatre comes to town in January
The Missoula Children’s Theater will stage “Treasure Island” on Jan. 25 at Hal Holmes Community Center. On Monday the theatre company will hold a series of free workshops for children in grades K to 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. Auditions are from 4 to 6 p.m. for grades K-12 on Tuesday. There is a $45 fee for those who receive roles in the production.
Road closures set
Sections of Seattle Avenue and Locust Street will be closed starting Monday to allow for utility extension work. Seattle Avenue will be closed about 400 feet east of Willow and Locust will be closed about 1,300 feet south of East Capitol Avenue. The contractor will drill well holes for dewatering on Jan. 20 and return to start excavation on Jan. 27.

High school basketball on tap this weekend
In high school basketball this weekend Kittitas visits White Swan tonight with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. On Saturday Coyotes host Cle Elum-Roslyn with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. Cle Elum-Roslyn hosts Goldendale tonight with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
The Ellensburg boys do not play this weekend. The Bulldog girls play Emerald Ridge at Federal Way High School at 6 p.m., Monday.
Westberg Invitational is Saturday
The Ellensburg High School wrestling team hosts the annual Ray Westberg Invitational starting at 9 a.m., Saturday. More than 25 schools will participate in the day-long event.
Central hoops at home Saturday
The CWU women’s and men’s basketball teams welcome Montana State-Billings to Nicholson Pavilion on Saturday. The Wildcat women pay at 4 p.m. with the men taking the court at 6:15 p.m.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is roast herb turkey sandwich, roasted potatoes and oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
