Request for proposals for Cold Weather Shelter

Ellensburg and Kittitas County released a joint request for proposals to operate a temporary Cold Weather Shelter this coming winter. The Kittitas Valley Ministerial Association decided in spring to no longer operate the shelter after providing the service for nine years. The requests are due by 5 p.m., July 31. The city and county also have discussed a year-round Sleep Center but that effort has been put on hold to address the more urgent need for a Cold Weather Shelter.


Chip-seal program starts Monday

Ellensburg’s annual chip-seal program is from Monday through Friday this coming week. Residents are asked to move their vehicles off the affected street and not to water their lawns near the street on the day the chip-seal is scheduled. The chip-seal schedule on Monday is Vantage Highway, from Brick Road east city limits, Dean Nicholson Boulevard from Alder to Wildcat Way, 14th Avenue, from Wildcat Way to Water, 18th Avenue from Alder to Regal, Parklane Avenue from Regal to Helena, and Walnut Street from 18th to Dean Nicholson. Brick Road to be closed

Brick Road will be closed from 6 a.m. to the afternoon on Monday, from Game Farm Road to Skyline Drive.


Croatian Picnic is Saturday

The annual Croatian Picnic is at noon, Saturday at the Roslyn Ball Park. There will be live music, games and activities for kids, food for sale and a beer garden. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for those under 21 with kids under 5 free. The Roslyn, Ronald, Cle Elum Heritage Club organizes the picnic.


“Anastasia: The Musical” opens Friday

The Valley Theatre production of “Anastasia: The Musical” continues with a performance at 7 p.m., tonight at Morgan Performing Arts Center. The play tells the story of what became of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov. The final weekend concludes with performances at 7 p.m., Friday and 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday. Tickets are $20 for general admission and are available on the Valley Theatre website.


“The Lego Movie” is Friday movie in park

“The Lego Movie” will be shown at Veteran’s Memorial Park at about 9 p.m., Friday. The movies, presented by Ellensburg Parks and Recreation, are free. People are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks. Movies are shown every Friday through Aug. 2.


Pint Night for CASA

Dru Bru-Cle Elum hosts a Pint Night to raise money for Court Advocates for Children from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday. Representatives from CASA will provide information on the program and how to get involved a $1 from every pint and $4 from ever pitcher will be donated to CASA.

 

Pint Night for Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame

Whipsaw Brewing hosts a Pint Night for the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday. There will be live music by CJ Taylor and a raffle with prizes that include a Blackstone grill and a Whipsaw-themed gift basket.

 

LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado sandwich on whole wheat bread, cucumber tomato salad and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.


WEATHER                                                                              

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 95 degrees. Sunset is at 8:49 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 65 degrees. Winds will be 15 to 30 mph. The weekend forecast calls for highs of 102 on Saturday and 103 on Sunday.
