Voters will be asked to raise levy lid

Kittitas County voters will be asked to raise their county property tax rate by 24 cents in the November General Election to help the county fund road projects. At a Monday meeting, the Kittitas County Commissioners approved the ballot measure that increases the tax rate from 77 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value to $1.01 per $1,000. State law caps property tax increases at 1 percent per year without voter approval. The commissioners stated that inflation far exceeds 1 percent per year and the current property tax collection rate does not meet funding needs for desired road projects.
