Ellensburg Community Morning Show, Friday, July 28

NEWS

City hall closed

Ellensburg City Hall will be closed today due to construction-related issues.

Drought emergency declared

A drought emergency was declared in Kittitas County, as well as 11 other counties this week by the state Department of Ecology. A drought emergency also was declared in Yakima County. The declaration was prompted by the early snowmelt, lack of spring rain and low stream flows. The state received 49 percent of its usual rainfall in June. A drought is declared when there is less than 75 percent of the normal water supply. A drought emergency enables the state to process emergency water right permits and transfers.

School supplies needed

The Kittitas County Health Network is staging a Back to School Supply Drive, which concludes on July 31. A list of supplies needed is available on the network’s Facebook page. The supplies can be dropped off at 107 E. Mountain View Avenue. The supplies will be dispersed on Aug. 16 at the Seedlings Center for Early Learning.

Dog walkers needed

Volunteers are needed to walk dogs at the Ellensburg Animal Shelter. Volunteers must be 18 or older and have a valid ID. Dog walking times are 10 a.m. to noon, or 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
