School district expects DOJ report within two weeks
The Ellensburg School District can expect the federal Department of Justice report on its investigation into the district within the next two weeks, ESD Superintendent Troy Tornow told the School Board at its Wednesday meeting. DOJ investigators visited the Ellensburg School District in February in response to reports of harassment and discrimination against students based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race and national origin. Tornow said the corrective actions required will be in place for three years with the most intense work set for the first year.
CWU Theatre production opens today
The Central Washington University Theatre production of “John Proctor is the Villian,” opens at 7:30 p.m., Friday, in the Tower Theater. The play follows a group of high school students as they study Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Information on tickets and the times and dates of other performances is on the CWU Theatre Department website.
High school fall play concludes this weekend
The Ellensburg High School Fall Play production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” ends this weekend at the Morgan Performing Arts Center with performances at 7 p.m., tonight, and 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.
Nature of Night is Saturday
CWU College of Science presents Nature of Night from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, in the Science Building. Nature of Night explores night-time science with activities, displays and the planetarium. The all-ages event is free and open to the public.
Kittitas school hosts holiday bazaar
The Kittitas High School Holiday Bazaar is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at the secondary school. There will be more than 30 vendors with crafts, jewelry, home décor and more. The Class of 2028 is selling raffle times and there will be free photos with Santa.
Recitals this weekend at CWU
Concerts scheduled at CWU this weekend include a saxophone studio recital at 7 p.m., tonight, and a horn studio recital at 2 p.m., Sunday. All performances are in the McIntyre Music Building and are free and open to the public.
Choir concert on Sunday
The CWU University Chorale, Wildcat Chorus, Vox Divina, and Chamber Choir will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. The choirs will present music from many singing traditions in the “Breeze of Fall” concert. Tickets are $15 for general admission with all proceeds going to operational costs for the choral program.
CWU Vocal Jazz Band honored
Central Washington University Jazz Band I was selected to perform for the American Choral Directors Association National Conference in March in Dallas. The group will stage a quarterly concert series to raise money for the trip.

Central football advances to tournament
The Central Washington University football team plays Western Colorado, in Gunnison, Colorado at 3 p.m., Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division II Football Championship Playoffs.
CWU football players earn honors
Three CWU football players earned Player of the Year honors from the Lone Star Conference. Tanner Volk earned Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year, Tyler Flanagan was named Offensive Back of the Year, and Mikaio Edward earned Defensive Freshman of the Year.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is tomato bisque, grilled cheese sandwich and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
