NEWS

Brick Road to be paved

Brick Road will be repaved Monday and Tuesday because the job completed this summer did not meet the city’s requirements. Asphalt removal is scheduled for Monday, and repaving is scheduled for Tuesday. A road closure will be required to allow for the work to be completed safely. The contractor will utilize a different asphalt subcontractor to do this replacement. The work will be done at no additional cost to the city.


Candidate forums set for next week

Two candidate forums will be held next week in Kittitas County. A forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cle Elum Centennial Center on Monday. The Ellensburg forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The events are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kittitas County, the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Clubs of Upper Kittitas County.


Concert at Central on Friday

A New Music Festival Composition Concert will be at the McIntyre Music Building Recital Hall at 7 p.m., Friday. Concerts also are scheduled for 10 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m., Saturday, and 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Sunday. All performances are free and open to the public.


Skate Night at EDE Studio

The Ellensburg Dance Ensemble hosts a roller skating night at the EDE Studio, 307 N. Main St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., tonight. Cost is $10 per person or $25 for a family of four.


Ellensburg Disc Golf fundraiser Saturday

The Ellensburg Disc Golf Club holds its annual fundraiser tournament Saturday at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park. Sign-in is at 8:30 a.m., with the first round at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $45.


Lumberjack competition this weekend

The PNW Timberfest-Pro Lumberjack competition happens Friday through Sunday at Iron Horse Brewery. Competition times are 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. Top athletes competed against each other in a series of events.


Mountain Ale Festival is Saturday

The Roslyn Mountain Ale Festival is from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, at the Roslyn Yard. There will be breweries from throughout the Pacific Northwest, including a collaboration between Bale Breaker and the CWU Craft Brewing Program, and live music. This is a 21-plus event and tickets are $40 with a commemorative glass and tasting scrip, or $10 just for the entertainment.


SPORTS

High school football play this weekend

In high school football tonight, Ellensburg looks to build off its first win of the season on the road against Quincy ay 7 p.m. Kittitas hosts county-rival Cle Elum-Roslyn at  7 p.m. Easton hosts Northwest Christian at 1 p.m., Saturday at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School.


CWU football hosts UT Permian Basin

The CWU football team plays the University of Texas-Permian Basin at 6 p.m., Saturday, at Tomlinson Stadium. The Wildcats enter the game 4-1 for the season and 3-0 in Lone Star Conference play. Permian Basin is 3-2 overall, 2-2 in league.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is tater tot casserole, mixed vegetables, a roll and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.


WEATHER                                                                              

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 68 degrees. Sunset is at 6:21 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 35 degrees. Winds will be 5 to 10 mph.  The weekend forecast calls for highs of 74 on Saturday and 76 on Sunday.
