Bite of the Burg set for Tuesday
Ellensburg welcomes Central Washington University students back with the Bite of the Burg from 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday in downtown Ellensburg. Bite of the Burg features food, games, free swag, local business vendors and nonprofit organizations explaining services available. Central students arrive on campus this weekend with first-year students today and returning students on Sunday. Wednesday is the first day of classes.
ArenaCross takes place at Rodeo Arena
Ellensburg ArenaCross takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the Ellensburg Rodeo Arena. The event is motocross racing set inside the Rodeo Arena, making for tight technical tracks. Ticket information is on the Ellensburg ArenaCross Facebook page.
Coffee with Council at Bite of the Burg
The Ellensburg City Council hosts Coffee with the City Council from 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday at the Bite of the Burg. The event features two council members sharing coffee and conversation with the public.
Burn ban to be lifted
The burn ban on recreational fires in Kittitas County was lifted today. The lifting of the ban applies to county land, the town of South Cle Elum and the cities of Cle Elum and Roslyn.
Rock the Block Party on Sunday
The Rock the Block Party in the parking lot between Early Bird/Night Owl and Rock and Reef is from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday. The event features games, food and beverages and music by Kyle James and the Hay Dogs.
Vagina Monologues has two more performance
Kittitas County Pride’s production of “The Vagina Monologues” features performances at 7 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 5 at the United Methodist Church. A question-and-answer session follows the Oct. 5 show. Ticket information is on the Kittitas County Pride website.
Dru Bru celebrates Oktoberfest
Dru Bru’s fourth annual Oktoberfest celebration is from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, at the Cle Elum taproom. There will be German-style beers, German-themed food, a keg toss and mini golf.
Iron Horse Dirtbag Carnival
Iron Horse Brewery’s annual Dirtbag Carnaval starts at 4 p.m. Saturday. The carnival features food trucks, rigged games, a hot dog eating contest, live T-shirt printing from Punch Gallery and a Trucker Hat Bar from Blonde Dog. The Sleepers and Cockaphonix will perform starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Going away party for Jim Pappas
A going away party for retired CWU professor and administrator Jim Pappas will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Whipsaw Brewery. In addition to his Central career, Pappas volunteered for multiple community organizations and efforts. Pappas recently moved to Bellevue.
Volunteer firefighters sought
Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue is accepting applications for the 2024-25 Volunteer Recruit Academy. The academy is a basic firefighter training program from November to April. Classes are in the evening, twice a week.

High football set for this weekend
Kittitas County high school football teams compete tonight and Saturday this weekend. Ellensburg welcomes Ephrata for a 7 p.m., kickoff tonight at Andreotti Field. Cle Elum-Roslyn plays Friday Harbor at 5 p.m., Friday, at Granite Falls High School. Kittitas hosts Forks at 2 p.m., Saturday at Harding Field. Easton plays Wishkah at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School.
CWU plays in Texas on Saturday
CWU football plays West Texas A&M at 5 p.m., Saturday in Canyon, Texas. The Wildcats are 1-1 and play at home for the first time this season against Western New Mexico at 6 p.m., Sept. 28.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chipotle turkey sandwich, roasted potatoes and an orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
