Sheriff’s Office adds school resource deputy

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office added a school resource deputy this fall. Deputy Jennifer Margheim will serve as resource deputy for Cle Elum-Roslyn, Easton, Thorp and Damman schools.


Signup approaches for energy assistance

Signup for HopeSource’s Energy Assistance Program for households with members age 60 and over starts on Sept. 12. All other signups begin on Oct. 10. The program helps individuals paying their heating bills. More information is available on HopeSource’s website.


Repair Café on Saturday

This month’s Rodeo City Repair Café is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at I.O.O.F. Cemetery Shop on Brick Road.


Punch Stage welcomes Saint September

The Punch Project Stage will feature Saint September perform from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday in a free, all-ages show. Saint September plays American roots, strings and harmonies.

Summer Nights movie series continues

The Roslyn Yard Summer Nights movie series shows “DC League of SuperPets” starting at sunset on Saturday. The series is sponsored by Basecamp Books and Bites.

Roslyn Farmers Market comes to an end for the season

The final Roslyn Farmers Market for 2003 will be this Sunday. The market is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


City to conduct electric pole testing

A contractor will conduct electric pole inspections, testing all 2,200-plus poles in the city, over the next three weeks, according to the city of Ellensburg. In the process of changing out poles there may be partial alley closures., sidewalk closures and shoulder work.


Card players wanted

The Adult Activity Center hosts weekly duplicate bridge games on Tuesdays mornings at 10:15. Don’t worry if you have only played party bridge and are not a duplicate player — this is a friendly game. If you are interested in playing and have questions call Edna Madsen at 509-670-1946 or the center at 509-962-7242.


Home under the lights

After a tough one-point loss to open the season on the road at Zillah, the Ellensburg High School football team debuts before the home fans at 7 tonight against AC Davis High School.

Cle Elum-Roslyn also looks to recover from a first-week loss, in its home opener at 7 tonight against Life Christian Academy.

Kittitas had its opener canceled so the Coyotes take the field for the first time this year at home against Manson High School at 7 tonight.


Easton fields football team

For the first year, Easton High School will field a six-man football team. The Jaguars will play their home games on Centennial Field in Cle Elum. Easton opens at home against Northwest Christian at 5 p.m., Friday. Currently, there are four games on Easton’s schedule, three at home.


Cross country starts season at home

The Ellensburg High School boys and girls cross country team starts the season with a bang, hosting 19 schools from across the region for the Ellensburg Relays to start at 9:30 a.m., Saturday at Rotary Park.


EHS swimming travels to first meet

The Ellensburg High School swim team sees its first competition of the season traveling to an eight-team meet at Prosser High School, starting at 10 a.m., Saturday.


Central football opens home season

The Central Washington University football team opens its home season Saturday against the Montana Tech Orediggers at 6 p.m. at Tomlinson Field. The Wildcats opened the year on the road losing to Weber State. This will be the first-ever meeting between CWU and Montana Tech.

The Sleepers perform in the Iron Horse Brewery beer garden at 6 tonight.

Basecamp Bites and Books welcomes Jam with Justin at 4 p.m., Saturday.

Dan Whitney performs at The Stovehouse at 6 p.m., Saturday

James Basnight plays at Cornerstone Pie at 7 p.m., Saturday.

X Marks the Spot presents a Hip Hop Showcase at Old Skool’s at 7 p.m., Saturday.

Glam rock band Diamond Star Halo plays at the Brick Saloon at 9 p.m., Saturday.

Easy-listening rock band Eminence Front plays at Thrall & Dodge Winery at 2 p.m., Sunday.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is grilled cheese with tomato bisque, mixed green salad and grapes. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 83 degrees. Sunset is at 7:29 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 51 degrees. Winds will be from 10 to 20 mph. Forecasted highs over the weekend are 86 on Saturday and 88 on Sunday.
