Tree survey results are in

The city of Ellensburg completed its Street Tree Inventory and Urban Tree Canopy Assessment. The survey found the city has 5,600 street trees, including 1,275 in planting strips between the street edge and sidewalk, 490 trees in the downtown and 3,860 trees in undeveloped portions of the rights of way in the older parts of town. The top three street tree species are Norway maple, red maple and Siberian elm.

 

City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 tonight in the City Hall Council Chambers. A consultant agreement for the Fieldhouse project proposed for Rotary Park is on the agenda.

 

Pfenning Road closed this week

Pfenning Road will be closed between Third Avenue and Vantage Highway today through 5 p.m., Friday, while the contractor extends the roadway crossing culvert. The work is part of the Pfenning Road Shared Use Pathway project.

 

Clearview Drive closed on Tuesday

West Clearview Drive will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to allow for sewer repair.

 

Good Life Discussion on Tuesday

Three Visions of a Good Life is the topic of the CWU Ethic’s Lab Good Life Community Discussion at 6 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. Philosophy and Comparative Religion professor David Schwan will lead the discussion.


Learn to derby

A session in the Rodeo City Roller Derby’s free Roller Derby 101 is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Tuesday at Ellensburg High School. The basics of roller derby are taught by expert instructors.


Acoustics jam in Roslyn

The Roslyn Creative Center hosts an Acoustic Music Jam at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday. Bring an instrument and tune or two to share. All skill levels are welcome.

 

Book bag design contest

Jerrol’s accepts entries in its book bag design contest until April 20. The winner receives a $50 Jerrol’s gift card and will have their signature printed on the bag. The winning entry will be revealed on International Bookstore Day on April 27. Design requirements and instructions are available on Jerrol’s website.

 

Author talk and book signing on Thursday

Maximilian Uriarte will discuss and sign copies of his book, “Battle Born: Lapis lazuli,” at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Student Union Ballroom. “Battle Born” is the Veterans Center Book Club selection. The event is free and open to the public.

 

SPORTS

EHS grads shine for CWU track

Two Ellensburg High School graduates performed well for the CWU track team at track meets in Texas on Saturday. Josh Boast ran a personal best team of 15.92 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and posted a GNAC-leading time of 55.19 in the 400-meter hurdles. Wyatt Franklin continued his strong season setting a personal record for the third consecutive meet, throwing the discus 49.27 meters.

 

Registration is open for soccer camp

Registration is open through April 8 for the EHS Soccer Camp for boys and girls, pre-K through sixth grade. The camp is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., April 17-20. The cost is $60 and information is available at www.bulldogs.com
