Alley closure alert
The alley between Second and Third avenues, and Main and Pearl streets will be closed from today through May 7 for work that includes fire service hot tap, alley restoration and frontage improvements.
Road work on Canyon Road on Monday
Traffic on Canyon Road will be disrupted today for work on an electrical project. The east-most lane will be blocked in front of and to the south of Circle K. The Circle K entrance and Starbucks exit will be temporarily altered.
Commission reviews affordable housing proposals
The Affordable Housing Commission will review two proposals to build affordable housing on the city’s First Avenue and Pine Street property at its meeting at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday in the Council Chambers. HopeSource submitted a plan to build 55 units, consisting of 49 one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments. Work would start in July, 2026 and be completed by August, 2027. Inversion Design Build proposes to build 36 units, consisting of 12 studio apartments and 24 one-bedroom apartments. Construction would start on phase one in December with completion by August, 2025. The commission reviews proposals and then determines whether to make a recommendation to the City Council.
This week in highway work
Due to Interstate 90 construction this week there will be minor delays in westbound traffic near Cle Elum, and there will be single-lane closures in both directions on the Vantage Bridge.
Night at the Museum series starts
The Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame Night at the Museum Series for 2024 starts Tuesday with a presentation of Fashion from the Archives at 7 p.m. at the museum. There will be a fashion show of items from the Hall of Fame archives.
Early bird special to expire
The early bird special for tickets to the Open Door Clinic: 25 Year Gala expires on Tuesday. After tomorrow, ticket price increased from $40 to $50 for the Great Gatsby-themed gala on June 1 at the Hotel Windrow Ballroom.
Have fun finding the bull
Ellensburg Parks and Recreation’s Find the Bull contest starts on Tuesday. Every Tuesday a clue will be dropped on Parks and Recreations’ Facebook page. The first to comment with the correct answer will be eligible for a prize of a single-use admission to the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool. The Bull is taking a vacation from its accustomed home at Unity Park as the park undergoes construction this summer.
Wildfire preparation open house on Tuesday
Puget Sound Energy presents a wildfire plan open house at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center. The presentation will show how public feedback was incorporated into PSE’s wildfire mitigation program and public safety power shutoff plan.

CWU’s Johan Correa set the school record in the 800-meter run at the Oregon State High Performance meet at Corvallis, Oregon on Saturday. Correa set the new school mark at 1:49.71. Ellensburg High School graduates E’lexis Holis and Josh Boast also performed well for the Wildcats. Hollis won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.85 seconds. Boast took third in the 400-meters at 53.93 seconds, and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.36 seconds.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is lemon chicken and wild rice soup and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
