NEWS

Burn ban extended to Upper County

A burn ban covering the Roslyn, Cle Elum, South Cle Elum and the unincorporated Upper County was put in place Saturday. The burn plan was imposed on the Lower County on July 8. The burn ban prohibits open burning. Within the city of Cle Elum, the ban prohibits charcoal barbecues. Within the remainder of the burn ban area, charcoal barbecues are not prohibited.


FISH seeks volunteers

The FISH Food Bank seeks volunteers to work at the distribution desk in September. Help is being sought to cover for volunteers traveling or taking time off for family in September. Basic computer skills, a friendly but firm attitude and reliability are needed. Contact Elise at volunteering@kvfish.org or call 925-5990, ext. 802.


Provide input on the future of I-90

The Steer I-90 Coalition is providing opportunities for people to comment on improvements needed to the I-90 corridor. An I-90 corridor planning webinar is slated for 5:30, Thursday, over Zoom. A survey also is being conducted. Information on both is available on the coalition’s website. The coalition focuses on improving I-90 between Easton and Cle Elum.


Fair season underway

The Kittitas County Fair takes place Labor Day but for many 4-H participants, fair season is underway. The air rifle and air pistol shooting competitions take place Saturday at the Umtanum Hall. The Junior Horse Show entry deadline in Friday.

Join in the skate

The Rodeo City Roller Derby invites anyone to join them in a summer social skate, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at Mountain View Park.


Have coffee with the council

The Coffee with the City Council event is 8 to 10 a.m.., Thursday at Early Bird. A couple of council members will be available for coffee and conversation.


Calling all cowgirls

The Ellensburg Rodeo is sponsoring Cowgirls Night Out, 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday in downtown Ellensburg. Participating venues may offer music, refreshment and discounts.


Celebrating rodeo with wine

The Ellensburg Rodeo Wine of Fame wine release party is 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, at Gard Vintners. It will be an opportunity to taste a limited edition artist series wine from Gard Vintners.


Get a free snow cone

The city of Ellensburg celebrates 811 Day with free snow cones from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday at City Hall. Homeowners and excavators must call 811 before any digging project.


Meeting this week

The following council and boards are slated to meet this week.

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., Monday at City Hall. The agenda includes public hearings for annexation requests, one off of Dolarway Road and one off of Anderson Road.

The Roslyn City Council meets at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday at City Hall.

The Kittitas City Council meets at 6 p.m., Tuesday, at City Hall.

The Ellensburg School Board meets at 6 p.m., Wednesday at Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School.

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is pork pozole, a chili lime pork stew with hominy, as well as sour cream, flour tortillas and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 83 degrees. Sunset is at 8:26 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 60 degrees. Winds will be from the northwest at 15 to 20 mph, and a stray shower or thunderstorm is possible.
