Personal fireworks are prohibited in Ellensburg and Cle Elum but there will be public aerial firework displays in Ellensburg and Cle Elum on July 4.



NEWS

City Council meets tonight

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m. tonight in the Council Chambers.  The agenda includes the first reading of amending the 2023-2024 biennial budget, and executive sessions to discuss potential litigation and real estate acquisition.


Planning for fireworks

There will be two public aerial fireworks displays on July 4. The Patriot Night Under the Lights celebration at the Kittitas Valley Event Center includes a firework display at 9:45 p.m. The Upper County’s Pioneer Days celebration features a fireworks show at dusk. The fireworks are shot off at Fireman’s Park and are visible anywhere in downtown Cle Elum.

Personal fireworks are prohibited in all jurisdictions, except for unincorporated Kittitas County and the city of Kittitas.


Black Horse public hearing on Tuesday

The Kittitas County commissioners hold a public hearing to consider the infrastructure and phasing agreement for the remaining development phases for Black Horse at Whiskey Creek at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Commissioners’ Auditorium.


Call for artists

Artists have until Aug. 2 to submit a request for qualifications to create a permanent public artwork for Unity Park. The City Council set aside $45,000 for all costs associated with the concept design, development, construction, transportation and installation of the artwork. The artist and project selection will be made on Sept. 25 and the artwork will be installed next spring.


Holiday kicks off in Cle Elum

Pioneer Days start Thursday with an Independence Day Celebration from 2 to 10 p.m. at Memorial Park in Cle Elum. There will be a kids’ zone, food trucks, a beer garden and a lineup of live music. The music begins with Micah J at 4:30 p.m., followed by Jared Graham at 6:15 p.m. and the American Honey Band at 8:15 p.m. Pioneer Days continues throughout the weekend.


Country western stars featured at Patriot Night Under the Lights

Country-western singer Aaron Tippin headlines the Patriot Night Under the Lights celebration at the Kittitas Valley Event Center on Thursday. The doors open at 6 p.m. and Huckleberry Road performs at 7 p.m., followed by Tippin at 8:30 p.m. A Patriot After Party with Keith Anderson follows the fireworks display at 10 p.m. Tickets are $50 and children under 10 are free when accompanied by a ticket holder. There will be a family zone and a beer garden at the show.


SPORTS

5K on July 4

The Ellensburg Morning Rotary Firecracker 5K is on Thursday at Rotary Park. The event features a 5K Run at 8:30 a.m. and a Kids Run at 9:45 a.m. This is a family-friendly race and all proceeds go toward the Ellensburg Morning Rotary Local Foundation to support a 4-H animal that will be donated to FISH.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is braised pork mashed potato bowl, a dinner roll and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
