Road work ahead

Ellensburg begins its annual chipsealing project this morning on Water Street from Manitoba to Bender. On Tuesday motorists will encounter chipsealing on Bender Road, from Airport Road to the west city limits; on Airport Road/ Walnut Street, from Umptanum Road to Manitoba; and on Ruby Street, from Fifth Avenue to University Way. Work will take place between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.


Big weekend on tap

Two major summer events are scheduled for this coming weekend. The Ellensburg Music Festival takes place on Friday and Saturday nights. The event features bands performing in venues throughout the downtown. There is a mix of jazz, swing, blues, country and soul. The Cle Elum Roundup is set for Friday and Saturday at the Washington State Horse Park. The roundup includes steer wrestling, team roping, bareback riding, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding.


FISH needs volunteers

FISH Food Bank has put out a call for volunteers to assist with its Picnic in the Park summer lunch program for children. Help is needed at all sites — Ellensburg, Kittitas, Cle Elum, Easton and Roslyn. For information call 509-925-5990 or email cecile@kvfish.org.


Students awarded Grange scholarships

The Swauk-Teanaway Grange announced its 2023 scholarship recipients. Receiving awards ranging from $1,800 to $2,400 were Dakota Watts of Ellensburg High School, Andrew Flood and Brendon Trudell, both of Kittitas High School and Trygve Starkovich and Rachael Bator of Cle Elum-Roslyn High School.


EVENTS

Jam in Roslyn

The Roslyn Creative Center hosts an acoustic music jam from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight. Bring an instrument and a tune or two. All skill levels are welcome.


Bookmobile on the last trip of summer

The Ellensburg Bookmobile makes its last rounds of the summer on Tuesday. The Bookmobile will stop at Millpond, Crestview Apartments on Alder Street, Rainier Street and the Hillside Mobile Park between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.


Teen and adult events at the library this week

The final Adult Summer Reading Program event of the summer is an opportunity to make a charcuterie board from Chef KC from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The Teen Summer Reading Program event is a movie extravaganza from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursday at Hal Holmes. Both events are free but require registration.


Music in Park series continues

The Music in the Park series features Nicole and Riley performing at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at North Alder Street Park.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is a sundried tomato pasta with sundried tomatoes, shallots, garlic, white beans, lemon, spinach, feta cheese and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
