WEATHER

The high today will be 89 degrees. Wind out of the NW at 5 MPH. Sunrise will be 5:12 a.m. and Sunset is at 9:00 p.m. The low will be 53 degrees tonight. The high tomorrow will be a sweltering 96 degrees.


NEWS

Aerial displays on tap

There will be two professional aerial fireworks displays in Kittitas County over the next two days.


A display is set for tonight at 10 as part of the Patriot Night under the Lights event at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. Patriot Night also includes performances by Runaway Jane and Colt Ford.

On Tuesday, the Upper County brings its annual Pioneer Days celebration to a close with a fireworks show in Cle Elum at dusk.


Know the rules before setting off fireworks

Fireworks are prohibited in the cities of Ellensburg, Cle Elum and Roslyn and the Town of South Cle Elum, as well as on all state and federal lands in Kittitas County.


Fire in the Yakima Canyon

The Roza Creek Fire near Roza Creek in Kittitas County was 717 acres and 75 percent contained as of Sunday afternoon. The fire is in the Roza Creek area west of the Yakima River, primarily on state and federal land. Recreation areas and campgrounds in that area have not been closed.


Street closure reminder

Three downtown city streets will be closed from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. today for resurfacing. Fourth Avenue will be closed from Water to Ruby streets. Pearl Street will be closed from Third to Fifth avenues and Pine Street will be closed from Third to Fifth avenues. The project is weather-dependent.


Bookmobile on its summer rounds

The Ellensburg Book is making the rounds in July offering books appropriate for children from kindergarten through Eighth grade. The bookmobile stops at Millpond, Crestview Apartments on Alder Street, Rainier Street and the Hillside Mobile Home Park between 5 and 8 p.m., on July 6, 11, 19 and 25th. Children can check out up to three books. In addition, there are free books for children birth to 5 years old.


EVENTS

Music at Dru Bru

Micah J will perform at 4:30 p.m. at the Dru Bru patio in Cle Elum. This is an all-ages show with no cover charge.


Get ready to run

The Firecracker 5K run is 8:30 a.m., Tuesday at Rotary Park. The Ellensburg Morning Rotary sponsors the run.


Liberty raising funds for bell tower

Liberty is staging a Fourth of July Parade and fundraiser to raise money to purchase an 1870s church bell and build a bell tower next to the Liberty Fire Station. The parade is at 10 a.m. July 4. Bricks with three lines of text are being sold as a fundraiser.


Music with the Fourth

The Grit City Band and American Honey are playing at the Cle Elum Independence Day celebration at Memorial Park between 11 a.m., and twilight.


Working on Ewok Trail

Mountains to Sound Greenway is organizing a Towns to Teanaway thistle removal effort from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday. Volunteers will gather at Runje Field in Roslyn and must wear long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shows. Gloves will be provided. Work will be done on the Ewok Trail which goes along Cle Elum Ridge and provides access to the Rat Pac Trail and the Teanaway Community Forest.


Valley Musical Theatre to present “9 to 5”

Valley Musical Theatre’s production of “9 to 5” will premiere at 7 p.m., Friday at Morgan Performing Arts Center. There will be additional performances on July 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. Tickets are $20 for general admission if purchased in advance, and $25 if bought at the door.


Getting involved this week

The following councils and commissions meet this week:

• The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., Monday, at City Hall.

• The Kittitas County commissioners meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday in the commissioners’ auditorium.



LUNCH

There is no FISH Open Table lunch today or Tuesday as all FISH programs are closed in observance of the holiday.
