Four die in ATV roll-over

Four young adults died Saturday when a Polaris Razor side-by-side all-terrain vehicle rolled over and burst into flames on a dirt road near Liberty, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office. Driver Conner Jenkins, 24, of Orting and his friend Benjamin Gomez Santana, 23, of Covington died in the collision. Two people they met that day, Devon Anonson, 26, of Kent and Halle Cole, 24, of Maple Valley also were killed. Gomez Santana and Cole died at the scene. Jenkins and Anonson were transported to Harborview, but did not survive. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the field where the collision occurred is a popular ATV recreation location. The cause is under investigation.


Dogs abandoned at off-leash park

The Ellensburg Police Department reported that six dogs were abandoned at the Rotary Park off-leash park overnight Saturday. The park was closed until Sunday afternoon while officers safely secured the dogs and transported them to the Animal Shelter.


Police celebrate National Night Out

National Night Out celebrations will be held in Ellensburg, Cle Elum and Kittitas on Tuesday. The Ellensburg Police Department welcomes community members to the Eat with the Heat BBQ from 6 to 8 p.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Park. The food is free and there will be representatives from many other law and first-responder agencies and organizations.

The Cle Elum-Roslyn Police Department will be offering up hot dogs and hamburgers from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cle Elum City Park. Other first-responder agencies also will be on hand. This event is free and open to all.

The Kittitas Police Department and Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue will offer a barbecue, live music by Abbigale and outdoor summer activities from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kittitas Gazebo.


Time is running out to return ballots

Tuesday is the final day to return ballots in the 2023 primary election. There are two races on the primary ballot, both in the Upper County. Voters are being asked to narrow the field from three to two in the Cle Elum-Roslyn School Board Position 2 race between Rob Iverson, Doug Weis and Monica Oertli Madalen, and in the Cle Elum Mayor race between Matthew Lundh, Kerry Clark and Ron Wayne. As of Friday, about 20 percent of ballots had been returned in both races.


School supplies needed

Today is the final day to donate supplies to the Kittitas County Health Network’s Back to School Supply Drive. The supplies can be dropped off at 107 E. Mountain View Avenue. The supplies will be dispersed on Aug. 16 at the Seedlings Center for Early Learning.

Chance to skate, make friends

Rodeo City Roller Derby invites skaters to join them for a summer social skate at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Mountain View Park Skate Rink. Social skates will be held on Aug. 8 and 15, as well.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is sausage and peppers pasta, mixed vegetables and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 85 degrees. Sunset is at 8:26 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 55 degrees. Winds will be from the northwest at 15 to 25 mph.
