Headliner added to Gustfest
The Bonafide Band featuring Nirvana’s bassist Krist Novoselic and Ellensburg’s Mark Pickerel, will perform at the Gustfest concert on June 23 in Umtanum Hall at the Kittitas County Event Center. The Gustfest concert is part of the Ellensburg Music Preservation Project to preserve the history of music in Ellensburg. Multiple bands from throughout Ellensburg’s musical history will perform at Gustfest, which will run from 1 to 6 p.m. The concert is free and open to all ages. There will be food trucks.
Chance to ask questions about wildfire mitigation plan
A Puget Sound Energy representative will answer questions about PSE’s Wildfire Mitigation and Public Safety Power Shutoff program and its Bill Discount Rate Program from 3 to 5 p.m., today, and from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday at the Carpenter Memorial Library in Cle Elum. Depending on the household size and income, the Bill Discount Rate program can save households 5 to 45 percent a month on the power bill.
Chamber after-hours at Pearl Bar and Grill
The Pearl Bar and Grill hosts the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce After-Hours event from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday. The event is open to the public and all marketing-related businesses are invited to join.
Dean Nicholson closed next week
Dean Nicholson Boulevard will be closed between Wildcat Way and Walnut Street from Tuesday through Thursday to connect the water line serving the new Central Washington University North Academic Building. The road will be plated and open to vehicles during non-construction hours.
Sleep Center meeting location selected
The Sleep Center meeting with the Ellensburg City Council and the Kittitas County commissioners will be at 5:30 p.m., Thursday in the CWU Student Union Theatre. The council and commission will discuss locations proposed for a Sleep Center. The meeting will be available via Zoom and parking is free on campus in the evening.
County commissioners seek volunteers
The Kittitas County Commissioners seek volunteers to serve on 17 county boards, committees and commissions, including the Planning Commission, Fair Board and Law and Justice Council. The full list and information on how to apply are available on the Kittitas County website.
Open Show Awards announced
Justin Gibbens’ work received the Best in Show award in the Kittitas County Open Show held at Gallery One. The award includes a $500 prize sponsored by Ginger and Grant Green honoring Evelyth Green. Eighteen awards totaling $4,000 were distributed at the Open Show.

CWU Athletic administrator takes GNAC job
CWU Athletics administrator Laura Dahlby Nicolai has been hired as Associate Commissioner and Senior Woman Administrator for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Dahlby Nicolai received her bachelor's degree from the University of Redlands, where she was a three-time all-conference diver. She then completed her master's degree in education at the University of Washington, where she took part in the Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership Program. Central is a member of GNAC for all sports other than football.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is Minestrone stew and oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
