CWU men with GNAC title
The Central Washington University men’s basketball claimed the GNAC Title and a berth in the NCAA Division 2 tournament with a 78-69 win over Alaska Anchorage at Nicholson Pavilion Saturday night. Hosting the tournament allowed the Wildcats to play before supportive fans and win the team’s first league title since 2011. CWU’s Samaad Hector was named the tournament MVP.
Central advances to the 64-team NCAA Division 2 National Tournament, which starts on March 16.
The presidential primary is Tuesday
The state Presidential Primary for the Democratic and Republican parties is Tuesday. The League of Women Voters of Kittitas County holds a voter hub in the Student Union Room 137 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to assist CWU students in voting in the primary.
Alley closure next week
The alley behind Unity Park, between Fourth and Fifth avenues, will be closed today through Wednesday to allow for utility tie-ins that are part of the park construction project.
Jerrol’s honored with award
Jerrol’s received the CWU President’s Diversity Award at a ceremony last week. The award recognizes the work of people or groups who have made positive, observable and sustainable impacts on diversity, inclusion and equity for the campus and wider community. Jerrol’s is a fourth-generation Ellensburg business.
Raise a pint for Kittitas County County Pride
Dru Bru hosts Kittitas County Pride Pint Night at its Cle Elum taproom at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday. Kittitas County Pride representatives will be there to talk about the orgnazation, a $1 from every pint and $4 from every pitcher will be donated to KCP and people will be able to paint pride rocks.
Puzzle people gather
Ellensburg Library’s 2024 Puzzle Competition begins at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The theme is Let’s Groove Tonight and there will be awards for best team costume. The competition features 10 two-person team assembling identical 500-piece puzzles to finish as much as possible within two hours.
City seeks alternative sleep center sites
The city of Ellensburg put a call out for residents to pursue alternative sites for a sleep center to house people experiencing homelessness. At its meeting on Monday, the council heard objections to a plan to install the center on the former Nites Inn property on South Ruby Street, primary because of its proximity to a child care center. Alternate sites must be within the city limits, be at least 1.25 acres, be available for purchase or lease, and be accessible by public transit and pedestrian access. The Sleep Center Site Recommendation form is on the city’s website.

EHS baseball’s home debut
The Ellensburg High School baseball team plays its first home game of the season against Kennewick at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is bean and barely soup, dinner roll and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
