City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., tonight, in the City Council Chambers. A public hearing for the 2025-26 biennial budget is on the agenda.

 

Central features Native speaker on Tuesday

Matika Wilbur presents “Changing the Way We See Native America: Dismantling Native-American Stereotypes” at 6 p.m., Tuesday in the Student Union Ballroom. Wilbur, from the Swinomish and Tulalip Tribes, is a photographer, best-selling author, speaker, filmmaker and host of the “All My Relations” podcast. She recently made her directorial debut for the film "One Small Thing." The presentation is followed by reception and book signing.

 

Fall Choral Classic at CWU this week

Central Washington University’s Fall Choral and Jazz Classic is on Tuesday and Wednesday in the McIntyre Music Building. The classic draws high school groups from across the region to participate in workshops and features performances CWU Choral groups. The CWU Choral groups perform at 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. each day. The concerts are free and open to the public.

 

Discussion focuses on DEI in Kittitas County

A panel discussion focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion in Kittitas County at 6 p.m., Wednesday in the Oddfellows Lodge on Pine Street. The panel, organized by the League of Women Voters of Kittitas County features representatives from the Ellensburg City Council, the city’s DEI Commission and KVH. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Recitals this week at CWU

Three concerts are scheduled at CWU this week. A trumpet studio recital is at 6 p.m., today, a percussion ensemble concert is at 7 p.m., Thursday, and a saxophone studio recital is at 7 p.m., Friday. All performances are in the McIntyre Music Building and are free and open to the public.

 

SPORTS

Ellensburg volleyball places second in state

The Ellensburg High School volleyball team placed second in the State 2A tournament Saturday at the Yakima Sundome. The Bulldogs dropped the championship match to Columbia River in five sets. EHS swept Mark Morris, Pullman and Archbishop Murphy en route to the title match.

 

Cle Elum-Roslyn edged by Asotin

The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School football team’s season ended with a 29-26 loss to Asotin in the second round of the State 2B playoffs on Saturday.

 

Ellensburg soccer falls to Columbia River

The Ellensburg High School soccer team’s season ended with a 4-0 loss to Columbia River Saturday in the quarterfinals of the State 2A girls’ soccer tournament.

 

Cle Elum-Roslyn soccer falls at state

The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School soccer team’s season ended with a 1-0 loss to Mount Vernon Christian in the quarterfinals of the State 2B girls’ soccer tournament on Saturday.

 

Central football wins, advances to tournament

The Central Washington University football defeated Western Oregon, 13-3, Saturday and qualified for the NCAA Division II Football Championship Playoffs. Central travels to play Western Colorado, in Gunnison, Colorado at 3 p.m., Saturday in a first-round game.

 

Central volleyball moves into first

The CWU volleyball team swept Simon Fraser in three sets Saturday to move into first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The teams entered the game tied for first. The Wildcats close the regular season this week, starting with a match against St. Martins at 7 p.m., Thursday, in Nicholson Pavilion.

 

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is white chicken chili, tortillas and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
