Ballots in the mail Tuesday

Ballots for the Nov. 5 General Election will be mailed to voters on Tuesday. The ballot features multiple federal and state offices, state initiatives and county officers. Ballots must be returned by 8 p.m., Nov. 5. Voters received a stamped envelope and there are multiple drop boxes across the county.


Brick Road to be paved

Brick Road will be repaved today and Tuesday because the job completed this summer did not meet the city’s requirements. Asphalt removal is scheduled for Monday, and repaving is scheduled for Tuesday. A road closure will be required to allow for the work to be completed safely. The contractor will utilize a different asphalt subcontractor to do this replacement. The work will be done at no additional cost to the city.


Alley closure Tuesday through Thursday

The alley between Lincoln /Elliot streets and Second/Third avenues will be closed Tuesday through Thursday to tap the main sewer line for future homes on North Elliot Street.


Candidate forums set for this week

Two candidate forums will be held this week in Kittitas County. A forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cle Elum Centennial Center today. The Ellensburg forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The events are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kittitas County, the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Clubs of Upper Kittitas County.


Jazz recital Tuesday

CWU Director of Jazz Keith Karns will perform a faculty recital at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. Karns will play music by Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Melba Liston, and Miles Davis, and be joined by Seattle-area musicians Greg Williamson, Kelsey Mines, John Hanson, and Steve Treseler.


CWU Trustees meet this week

The CWU Trustees meet Thursday and Friday in Ellensburg. The regular business meeting is at 2:10 p.m., Thursday, in the Wellington Event Center on campus. The meeting continues at 8:30 a.m., Friday, in the event center. Friday’s agenda includes a presentation by the APOYO food bank.


SPORTS

Friday night high school football results

In Friday night high school football, Ellensburg won its second straight game, defeating Quincy, 40-14. The Bulldogs almost doubled their season point total in one game. In the showdown between county foes, Cle Elum-Roslyn defeated Kittitas, 20-0. Easton fell to Northwest Christian, 60-7, on Saturday.


CWU football upset on Saturday

The CWU football team was edged by the University of Texas-Permian Basin, 14-13, at home Saturday night. The Wildcats ran the ball well with Kennedy McGill leading the team with 138 yards rushing, but could not generate much offense through the air. Central travels to play Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5 p.m., Saturday.


Central volleyball sweeps Alaska schools

The Central volleyball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks on Thursday and Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday on the annual road trip north this past weekend. The Wildcats at 7-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play heading into their home match with Simon Fraser at 7 p.m., Thursday.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken noodle soup and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 76 degrees. Sunset is at 6:15 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 50 degrees. Winds will be 10 to 20 mph.
