Bite of the Burg set for Tuesday

Ellensburg welcomes Central Washington University students back with the Bite of the Burg from 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday in downtown Ellensburg. Bite of the Burg features food, games, free swag, local business vendors and nonprofit organizations explaining the services available. Wednesday is the first day of classes.


Coffee with Council at Bite of the Burg

The Ellensburg City Council hosts Coffee with the City Council from 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday at the Bite of the Burg. The event features two council members sharing coffee and conversation with the public.


Urban flooding open house Thursday

An open house to provide information on urban flooding will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday at the City Council Chambers. Residents can share their experiences, voice their concerns, learn about flood risks and ask questions.


Volunteer firefighters sought

Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue is accepting applications for the 2024-25 Volunteer Recruit Academy. The academy is a basic firefighter training program from November to April. Classes are in the evening, twice a week.


CWU professor receives research grant

Central Washington University geology professor Hannah Shamloo received a $495,196 grant from the National Science Foundation for her research project, “A Volcanic Birth Story: The Initiation of a Young Cascade Arc Volcano as told by Crystal Cargo. Shamloo’s research centers on the ways in which the chemical composition of the crust surrounding magma chambers stored beneath the surface shape the volcano.


Ellensburg Archives and Museum Crawl set for Oct. 5

Registration is open for the Ellensburg Archives and Museum Crawl from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 5. The event starts at the Brooks Library parking lot and includes the CWU Museum of Culture and Environment, the CWU Archives and Special Collections, the Central branch of the State Archives, the Kittitas County Historical Museum and the Ellensburg Public Library. SPORTS

Central football wins big in Texas

The CWU football team defeated West Texas A&M, 45-3, in Canyon, Texas on Saturday. Wildcat quarterback Kennedy McGill passed for 178 yards and rushed for 102 yards. Tyler Flanagan led Central with 104 yards rushing. CWU, now 2-1 for the season, has its home opener at 6 p.m., Saturday against Western New Mexico. 


Central volleyball sweeps St. Martin’s

The CWU volleyball team improved to 2-0 in league play with a three-set sweep of St. Martins in Lacey on Saturday. The Wildcats host Montana State Billings at 7 p.m., Thursday.


High school weekend football results

In high school football this past weekend, Ellensburg fell 9-6 to Ephrata on Friday. The Bulldogs will look for their first win of the season at Toppenish at 7 p.m., Friday. Cle Elum-Roslyn defeated Friday Harbor, 15-12, at Granite Falls High School. The Warriors are 2-1 for the season and travel to play White Swan at 7 p.m., Friday. Kittitas defeated Forks, 27-21, on Saturday. The Coyotes improved to 2-1 for the season and travel to play Goldendale at 7 p.m., Friday. Easton fell to Wishkah, 26-20, on Saturday in Cle Elum.


EHS cross wins Apple Ridge Run Invitational

The Ellensburg High School boys and girls cross country teams placed first in the Apple Ridge Run Invitational in Cowiche on Saturday. The Bulldogs host a meet at their Rotary Park course at 4:30 p.m., Thursday.

 

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is split pea and ham soup, garlic toast and an orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
