NEWS

Brick Mill Road to be closed

Brick Mill Road, from North Willow Street to Game Farm Road will be closed Monday through Wednesday to allow for paving. Drivers should look for detour signs and plan for an alternate route. There also is construction on Pfenning Road from Radio Road to the Vantage Highway.


Search continues for missing man

As of Sunday afternoon, Kittitas County Search and Rescue continued its search in the Colockum area for an 88-year-old Wenatchee man suffering from dementia. Searchers were looking for William “Charlie” Martin in a remote area where his car was abandoned near Coluckum Road. Martin had been missing all weekend.


Hall being designed for multicultural programs

Central Washington University is designing a $6 million renovation of Black Hall to enhance space for multicultural programs and improve visibility and functionality for the College of Education and Professional Studies. The Diversity and Equity Center will almost double in size. The project will relocate some offices elsewhere in Black Hall.


Cheech Marin to appear at Central

CWU presents “An Evening with Cheech Marin: A Life of Art, Culture and Entertainment,” at 7 p.m., Thursday in the McIntyre Music Building as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Marin first came to notice as a member of the Cheech and Chong comedy duo in the early 1970s and has had a career that spans comedy, acting and directing. Marin also is a leading advocate for Chicano art. The presentation is free to the public. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and people are encouraged to arrive early to get a seat.


Mural ribbon cutting on Friday

As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the First Friday Art Walk, there will be a ribbon cutting for the mural to the left of Nuwave Gallery/Fortuity Cellars on Third Avenue at 4 p.m., Friday.


SPORTS

CWU football wins big

CWU’s football team defeated Western New Mexico, 36-0, in the Wildcats home debut on Saturday. Central controlled the game on the ground, rushing for 364 yards. Cam Daniels and Tyler Flanagan each topped 90 yards rushing. CWU goes on the road to play Eastern New Mexico at 5:30 p.m., Saturday.


High school football results from Friday

In high school football on Friday, Ellensburg fell, 7-3, on the road against Toppenish. The Bulldogs travel to Grandview on Friday in search of the elusive first win of the season. Kittitas lost 28-16 to Goldendale to fall to 2-2 for the season. The Coyotes host White Swan on Friday. Cle Elum-Roslyn beat White Swan, 27-0, to improve to 3-1 for the season. The Warriors host Highland on Friday.

In other high school sports over the weekend, Ellensburg’s volleyball team defeated Burlington-Edison, 3 sets to 2, and the Bulldogs’ girls' soccer team topped Quincy, 3-2.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken and dumplings and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
