Rodeo wraps up today

The four days of the Ellensburg Rodeo come to a close today with the finals today. The competition gets underway at 11:45 a.m. The finals last about three hours.


Wright takes Xtreme title

Stetson Wright won the Xtreme Bulls Saturday night at the Ellensburg Rodeo Arena with a 91-point ride on Dakota Rodeo Bull Bubba G. Wright won more than $30,000 in the Xtreme Bulls competition. With the win, Wright maintained his hold of first place in the Xtreme Bulls season standings.


County fair closes today

Today is the final day of the Kittitas County Fair. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Admission is half off.


Council moves meeting to Tuesday

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Ellensburg City Council will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday in City Hall. Included on the agenda is the Central Transit Zero Emissions Transition Plan.


Ellensburg Police add online tip form

The Ellensburg Police Department has added an online tip form to its website. A person can either leave their name or remain anonymous. The intent is for the information to assist police in solving crimes more quickly. It is not monitored 24/7 and is not meant for emergency purposes.


SPORTS

EHS drops close game

Ellensburg High School got its football season off to an exciting start when Colton Magruder ran the opening kickoff back 60 yards for a touchdown, but the Bulldogs still fell short in a 14-13 loss at Zillah Friday. Magruder accounted for all his team’s touchdowns, adding a 47-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. The junior running back finished the night with 175 yards on 16 carries. Ellensburg's home opening is Friday against Davis. Kickoff is 7 p.m.


Cle Elum-Roslyn starts with a loss

The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School team opened its season on the road with a 35-6 loss to Manson. The Warriors' home opener is Friday against Life Christian Academy. Kickoff is 7 p.m.


CWU football drops opener

Central Washington University’s football team kept it close against the No. 10-ranked FCS team, Weber State, but lost ground in the second half, losing 35-10. Central trailed 14-10 at halftime. Redshirt freshman Kennedy McGill provided a spark at quarterback, leading the team with 55 yards on the ground. The Wildcats’ home opener is Saturday against Montana Tech at Tomlinson Stadium. Kickoff is 6 p.m.


Wildcat volleyball goes 2-2 at tourney

The Central Washington University volleyball evened their season record with two wins Friday at the Yotes Classic in San Bernardino, California on Friday. The Wildcats defeated Cal State LA, 3-1, and then swept Regis, 3-0. On Friday, Central travels to play in the Up North Preseason Tournament in Duluth, Minnesota.


Central soccer drops match

Central Washington University’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 match to Westminster of Utah, Saturday in Seattle. Paige Savage scored the Wildcats’ lone goal. Central travels to California to play Chico State on Thursday and San Francisco State on Saturday.


Ellensburg soccer, volleyball open season

Ellensburg High School’s soccer and volleyball team see their first action of the season on Tuesday. The soccer team plays at 7 p.m. at West Valley in Yakima. The volleyball team hosts Royal, Naches and East Valley in a jamboree starting at 5 p.m.

The FISH Open Table lunch is closed today for the Labor Day weekend.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 74 degrees. Sunset is at 7:35 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 50 degrees. Winds will be from 20 to 30 mph.
