Getting into the rodeo-fair spirit
Two sure signs that the Kittitas County Fair and the Ellensburg Rodeo is near are scheduled for Saturday. The Ellensburg Rodeo Kickoff Pancake breakfast is from 7 to 10 a.m. at Unity Park. There will be pancakes and entertainment for the family.
The Ellensburg Junior Rodeo Parade starts with a lineup at the Skate Park at 9:30 a.m. The eight-block parade with kids on bikes, scooters, a horse or walking will wind through the downtown.
Get your motor running
For the 19th year fans of cool cars and hot wheels will gather for the Kruisin Kittitas Car Show and Burnouts, starting with a car show 10 a.m. in downtown Kittitas. At 3 p.m., vehicles will compete in a burnouts competition. The event features a classic car parade, food, live music and a kidszone.
SPORTS
The Central Washington University women’s volleyball team was selected to place first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Wildcats opened their season against Metro State at the Yotes Classic Showcase on Aug. 31 in San Bernardino, California.

Kittitas County Junior Horse Fair starts Thursday
The annual Kittitas County Junior Horse begins this morning at Bloom Pavilion and continues through Sunday. The event is open to the public. The competition takes place in Bloom Pavilion and the Rodeo Arena.
Wolfpack performs at Alder Park
Wolfpack performs at 6:30 tonight at North Alder Street Park as part of the Free Live Music in the Park series. Wolfpack is a rocking, rhythm and blues band.
Fair deadline nears
The deadline for entry to all Kittitas County Fair departments and indoor displays is 5 p.m., Friday. More information is available on the Kittitas County Fair website. It is free to enter exhibits and exhibitors have the option to purchase a discounted five-day exhibitors pass for the fair.
Marathon deadline Friday
The deadline for people interested in representing Kittitas County at the 2023 Master Marathon in Sanda City, Japan is 4 p.m., Friday. A runner will be selected to help celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Kittitas County-Sanda City sister-city relationship. Contact Julie Kjorsvik at 962-7508 for more information.
Free movie series starts
The free Roslyn Yard Summer Nights movie series starts on Saturday with a showing of “Lightyear.” The movie begins at dusk. Nine more films will be shown in the series through Oct. 7. The next movie is “Strange World” on Aug. 26. The series is sponsored by Basecamp Books and Bites, which is adjacent to the Roslyn Yard.
Full-day bike event
Bikes and Brus is set for 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday. The event starts with a trail work party at 9:30 a.m. at Ride Roslyn. Activities throughout the day include an airbag jump clinic at Dru Bru Cle Elum, a Roslyn to Dru Bru ride, and live music in the evening at Dru Bru. LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch is spiced rubbed pork loin, chipotle cheddar mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a roll and a banana. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
