NEWS

City is conducting a street tree inventory

Arborists will be conducting a street tree inventory in the city of Ellensburg through Nov. 1. DCG/Watershed has been hired to inspect and map existing trees within street right-of-ways. The city will use the information to develop an urban forest management plan. Contact the Public Works and Utilities Department at 962-7230 for more information.


Cops take to the rooftop

The annual Cop on Top Special Olympics fundraiser is from noon to 6 p.m. today. Local law enforcement leaders will be “stranded” on the roof of Fred Meyer to raise donations for local Special Olympics athletes. There will be a hot dog barbecue with proceeds going to Special Olympics, a raffle and back-to-school backpacks will be lowered to the first 150 kids who attend.


Cle Elum to seek Pangazzi nominations

The city of Cle Elum will begin accepting nominations for the Judge Paul P. Pangrazi Memorial Service Award on Friday, and continue accepting through Sept. 25. The award honors a person for distinguished service to the community.


EVENTS

Dogs on show

The Kittitas County Fair 4-H Dog Show concludes from 5 to 8:30 tonight in the Hunt Memorial Arena on the Kittitas County Fairgrounds.


Back-to-school night tonight

The Kittitas Secondary School Student/Parent Back to School Night is from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the secondary school. It is a chance for students to get their schedule, enjoy dinner and receive a free T-shirt designed for the Class of 2027.

Big Band closes concert series

The Ellensburg Big Band brings the Music in the Park summer concert series to a close with a performance at 6:30 tonight at Alder Street Park. The Ellensburg Big Band is an 18-member classic Swing Jazz Band in the tradition of the dance bands of the 1940s and 50s.

Teen event set for Friday

The 509 Teens Back to School Bash is at 6 p.m., Friday at West Ellensburg Park. The event is for 13 to 17-year-olds and will feature games, music, food and raffle prizes. The Kittitas County Recovery Community Organization sponsors the bash.


Hall of Fame dinner Saturday

The Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame will induct the class of 2023 into the hall at the induction banquet, starting at 5 p.m., Saturday in the Student Union Ballroom on the CWU campus. Joining the hall of fame this year are tie-down roper Cody Ohl, bullfighter Rob Smets and announcer Justin McKee.


Dogs' day at the pool

The annual Doggie Paddle at the Pool is from 6 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool. The dogs must be well-behaved and well-socialized with other dogs and non-family members, and be accompanied by a handler age 16 or older. The cost is $6 per dog or free with a pet food donation. The dog swim is the last pool use before it is closed for cleaning over the week leading up to Labor Day.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is summer squash baked pasta, peas and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
