City to stop reading proclamations
Ellensburg Mayor Rich Elliott said he will no longer read the monthly proclamations approved by the City Council. The council approves monthly proclamations on various topics including honoring Black history in February and Irish heritage in March. Elliott said he will continue to sign the proclamations and they are available to the public. During the public comment portion of the meeting, the council received criticisms for a social media post last week that said city offices would be closed on the holiday but did not specify the holiday as Presidents Day. Two people also spoke during public comment asking the council to discontinue all DEI programs.
EHS Winter Musical opens this week
The Ellensburg High School Winter Musical, “Anything Goes” opens at 7 p.m., tonight at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. The schedule includes 7 p.m. showings on Feb. 21, 22 and 28 and March 1, and 2 p.m. shows on Feb. 22 and March 1. Tickets are $15 for general admission.
Native American print exhibit opens Thursday
An exhibit of Native American prints from the Crow’s Shadow Institute of Arts Collection opens today at CWU. The exhibit, titled “Past, Now and Future,” starts with an art history talk by Michael Holloman at 4 p.m. in the SURC Theatre, followed by a reception at 5 p.m. in the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery.
CWU Board of Trustees meets on Thursday and Friday
The Central Washington University Board of Trustees meets today and Friday at the Wellington Event Center. Central’s response to Executive Orders is set for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday’s agenda.
“Dracula” opens on Friday
The CWU Theatre Department production of “Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really,” premieres at 7:30 p.m., Friday in the Milo Smith Theatre. There also are performances on Saturday, Sunday, Feb. 28, March 1 and 2. Tickets are available on the CWU Theatre website.
Winter Faculty Showcase is on Friday
The CWU Music Department's Winter Faculty Showcase is at 7 p.m., Friday, in the McIntyre Music Building. Seven faculty performers will be featured. Admission is free but donations are accepted for the Music Department.
The Enterprise Challenge deadline extended
The deadline for the Enterprise Challenge has been extended to Friday. Enterprise Challenge is a business plan competition open to new and emerging companies in Kittitas County. The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event and entry information is on the chamber’s website.
Coast Guard Band to perform at CWU
The United States Coast Guard Band presents a free concert at 7 p.m., Sunday the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is part of the Coast Guard Band’s Centennial Celebration Concert Tour, marking the 100-year milestone for the ensemble. The program features wind band favorites, virtuosic soloists, patriotic classics, marches, and new music by American composers. Tickets are free and available on the CWU website.

Ellensburg girls advance to district final
The Ellensburg High School girls’ basketball team defeated Selah, 80-27, on Tuesday to advance to the district final at 6 p.m., tonight against Prosser in the EHS gym. A win qualifies the Bulldogs for the state 2A tournament.
Central hoops host final regular season home stand
CWU basketball hosts its final regular season home stand on Thursday and Saturday. The Wildcat men and women welcome Western Oregon on Thursday with the women’s game at 5:15 p.m. and the men’s at 7:30 p.m. St. Martin’s visits on Saturday with the women’s game at 4 p.m. and the men at 6:15 p.m. The women are in third place in the GNAC with an 11-4 league record and the men sit in first place with an 11-3 league record.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is Bolognese pasta, green beans and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
