Wenas fire remains7,778 acres

The Black Canyon Fire in the Wenas area remained at 7,778 acres as of Wednesday afternoon. The fire started Monday afternoon, in Yakima County but is near the line with Kittitas County. In Kittitas County, Umptanum Road is closed at Durr Road, and a level 2 evacuation notice, advising residents to be ready to go, has been issued Umtanum Road at Durr Road south to the county line.


Fourth Avenue closed on Thursday

Fourth Avenue, between, Main and Pearl streets, will be closed today to allow for the installation of rooftop HVAC units on the Fitterer’s Building, which is undergoing remodeling.


Ellensburg Blusers perform in park

This week’s Summer Concert in the Parks features Ellensburg Blusers from 6:30 to 8 p.m., today, at North Alder Street Park. People are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, dinner and dancing shoes to this family-friendly free concert.


“The Bad Guys” is Friday movie in park

The Dreamworks animated film, “The Bad Guys,” will be shown at Veteran’s Memorial Park at about 9 p.m., Friday. The movies, presented by Ellensburg Parks and Recreation, are free. People are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks. Movies are shown every Friday through Aug. 16.


Pint Night for Humane Society

Dru Bru-Cle Elum hosts a Pint Night for the Yakima Humane Society from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday. Adoptable animals will be on-site, and $1 from every pint and $4 from every pitcher will be donated to the Yakima Humane Society.


Ellensburg Music Festival starts Friday

The Ellensburg Music Festival starts Friday night in downtown Ellensburg and continues through Saturday night. The festival features jazz, blues, soul, rock, Latin and country performers. Performances are 6 p.m. to midnight, Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. There are outdoor venues at Ridge Restaurant parking lot on Pine and Fourth, and the Red Pickle parking lot on Pine and Third. Indoor venues include the Odd Fellows Lodge, The Ramsey Building upstairs, Gallery One, the Clymer Museum, the Pearl Bar and Grill and Gard Vintners. Cle Elum Roundup rodeo this weekend

The Cle Elum Roundup Rodeo is Friday and Saturday at the Washington State Horse Park. The PRCA/WPRA Rodeo Grand Entry is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by the competition. Tickets are not needed for slack at 9 a.m., Saturday. The evening performance started at 6:30 p.m. Ticket information is on the Cle Elum Roundup website.


Art market at the pass

The Snoqualmie Pass Art Market is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday at Dru Bru-Snoqualmie Pass. The event supports local artists and makers.


Chip sealing in Kittitas on Monday

Kittitas County will chip seal Benton Street, Mason Street and North Mason Street in Kittitas starting at 7 a.m., Monday. All vehicles must be removed from the roadway or they will be towed at the owner’s expense.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is grilled chicken Caesar salad, garlic toast and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
