Coronation for Pioneer Days Queen
The coronation for Pioneer Days Queen Lorene Rushton will be on Saturday at the Cle Elum Eagles. The evening starts at 5 p.m. with a social hour accompanied by the music of Floyd Rogalski and Louie Osmonovich, and a video of past queens prepared by Nikki Dearing and Debbie Burchak. Cle Elum Mayor Matt Lundh officially opens the coronation at 6 p.m. There will be cake, cookies and coffee, and the bar will be open.
Coffee with the council on Thursday
The monthly Coffee with City Council event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., today, at the Lunchbox Café. The event features two council members sharing coffee and conversation.
Rest area closed
The east and westbound Interstate 90 Indian John Rest Areas are closed due to water issues. There is no estimated time for reopening.
Fair looking for ambassadors
The Kittitas County Fair is looking for ambassadors to promote the 2024 fair. Applicants must be a high school junior or senior for the coming year, live in Kittitas County, have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have no misdemeanor or felony convictions. The application deadline is June 30. More information is on the Fair's Facebook page.
In search of an anthem singer
The Cle Elum Eagles is holding a National Anthem singing contest at 7 p.m., Saturday. The contest is open to all ages and the winner sings at the Pioneer Days Parade on July 6.
Gladiator Dash registration open
Registration is open for the Youth Gladiator Dash scheduled for Aug. 3 at Rotary Park. Participants can register at Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool or on the city’s website. People who register for $10 before July 22 receive a T-Shirt. The Dash includes running, jumping, sliding, crawling, balancing, hopping, searching, climbing, throwing, and the opportunity to get muddy.
Black Horse public hearing next week
The Kittitas County commissioners hold a public hearing to consider the infrastructure and phasing agreement for the remaining development phases for Black Horse at Whiskey Creek at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Commissioners’ Auditorium.
Kittitas summer reading program starts July 10
Even though the Gilmour Memorial Library in Kittitas has been closed since May 29 due to ceiling damage tied to a wind storm, the library will start its summer reading program on July 10. The program will be on Wednesdays through July 31. Registration forms are available at City Hall.
Planning for fireworks
There will be two public aerial fireworks displays on July 4. The Patriot Night Under the Lights celebration at the Kittitas Valley Event Center includes a firework display at 9:45 p.m. The Upper County’s Pioneer Days celebration features a fireworks show at dusk. The fireworks are shot off at Fireman’s Park and are visible anywhere in downtown Cle Elum.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is a turkey bacon sandwich, potato salad and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
