Donation supports mental health counseling
A $777,000 donation from Comprehensive Health will help establish Central Washington University’s Mental Health Counselling graduate program. The gift allows the program to be created over the next two years, to start classes in January of 2025. The funds will be used to hire a team, including two faculty members, one of whom will be the program coordinator, a clinic manager, an interim program coordinator, and graduate assistants and to cover additional operational costs.
Roslyn seeks comments on urban forest
Roslyn residents are asked to comment on the city’s preliminary draft of its Urban Forest Land Stewardship Plan. The plan, which helps guide the management and maintenance of the urban forest, is on the city’s website. Comments are sought as part of the process to develop the final draft.
Drug Take-Back and BBQ on Thursday
A free drug take-back and barbecue will be held on the SURC East Patio from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday. It is a chance to dispose of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications and used sharps from injections. The event is open the CWU students and staff and the community.
CWU Wind Ensemble Concert on Thursday
The CWU Wind Ensemble performs at 7 p.m., Thursday at the McIntyre Music Building. The concert features the ensemble in a preview performance before it is presented at the 20th World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles international conference in South Korea this summer. The concert is free.
Helen House Pint Night at Iron Horse
Iron Horse Brewery Taproom hosts Helen House Pint Night on Thursday evening. A portio n of the proceeds will support Helen House, a nonprofit organization of SOGIE youth and young adults.
Jazz weekend at Central
The end-of-quarter concerts for CWU’s jazz bands are on Saturday. An Afternoon of Jazz is at 4 p.m. An Evening of Jazz is at 7 p.m. A $15 general admission ticket provides entry to both concerts in the McIntyee Music Building Concert Hall.
Pride Parade is Saturday
The Kittitas County Pride is Saturday at 11 a.m. in Ellensburg. The parade starts at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds on East Seventh Avenue, winds into downtown Ellensburg and returns to the fairgrounds. Other Pride weekend events include a Pride Disco at 5 p.m., Friday, at Kittitas Café, and a Drag Show on Saturday in the I.O.O.F. Lodge. There is an all-ages show at 7 p.m. and an adult show at 8:15 p.m.
Health clinic gala is Saturday
The Open Door Health Clinic holds is 25th Anniversary Gala at 6 p.m., Saturday at the Hotel Windrow. The event features dinner, entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets are $50 before the event and $60 at the door.
Orchestra concert is Sunday
The final CWU Orchestra Concert of the school year is at 4 p.m., Sunday in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 for general admission.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chopped Italian sandwich, roasted potatoes and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
