Drive-through flu shot clinic is Oct. 25
The annual drive-through flu vaccination clinic is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 25 at Western Village off Alder Street. The clinic is a cooperative effort between the Kittitas County Health Department and Community Health of Central Washington. The free vaccine id for children and adults, but with a limited supply, it will be first come-first served. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone over 6 months old receive a flu shot.
Positions open on city commissions
The city of Ellensburg is seeking applications for one open position on the Landmarks and Design Commission and three open seats on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Application information is on the city’s website.
Neuro-friendly Storytime at library
The Ellensburg Public Library hosts a Neuro-Friendly Storytime at 9:30 a.m., today. All ages and abilities are welcome. There will be another offering on Nov. 21.
Poetry reading on Thursday
The Habitats Poetry Reading and Generative Writing Workshop features Katherine Whitcomb at 6:30 p.m., today at the Ellensburg Public Library. Whitcomb is a CWU professor and the author of three full-length poetry collections.
CWU Trustees meet this week
The CWU Trustees meet today and Friday in Ellensburg. The regular business meeting is at 2:10 p.m., today, in the Wellington Event Center on campus. The meeting continues at 8:30 a.m., Friday, in the event center. Friday’s agenda includes a presentation by the APOYO food bank.
Free movie at Unity Park Friday
“Hocus Pocus” will be shown for free at Unity Park at 7:30 p.m., Friday. People are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and snacks.
Dispose of medications on Saturday
A medication take-back and paper shred day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center. The Cascade Prevention Coalition sponsors the medication takeback, and the cities of Cle Elum and Roslyn sponsor the paper shred.
Human Library on Saturday
Ellensburg Public Library hosts the Human Library from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday. The Human Library is an opportunity to borrow an open "book" for a conversation about topics like mental health, disability, ethnicity, gender, ideology, recovery, occupation, and race. It is a collaboration between the CWU EthicsLab, CWU Libraries, and the city of Ellensburg.
Cellists rock out to Queen
The Central Cello Finale Concert at 6 p.m., Saturday in the McIntyre Music Building features 100 cellists rocking to the music of Queen. The concert is the culmination of the two-day Central Cello Celebration, which draws cellists from across the Pacific Northwest. Saturday’s concert features the world premiere of Tom Walworth’s “Crowned Jewels,” a musical medley of famous hits from Queen.
Fall faculty showcase is Sunday
CWU’s Fall Faculty Showcase is 4 p.m., Sunday in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. Performers include Jeff Snedeker (horn), Josh Gianola (percussion), Dan Lipori (bassoon), David McLemore (tuba), Giyong Ahn (piano), Mark Goodenberger (percussion), Josie Wells (clarinet), Ross Salvosa (piano), and John Michel (cello). Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. All donations go directly to the CWU Department of Music to support various opportunities for students.

High school sports this week
In other high school sports today, Ellensburg’s volleyball team hosts Wenatchee at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs host a league cross-country meet at 4:30 p.m., at Rotary Park. The Kittitas and Cle Elum-Roslyn volleyball teams play at 6:30 p.m., at Kittitas.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is roasted garlic pulled pork mashed potato bowl, biscuit and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
