NEWS

Ellensburg and Central celebrate Halloween

Downtown Ellensburg and Central Washington University feature Halloween events for children today. The Ellensburg Downtown Association hosts Harvest Fest from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with trick or treating at participating businesses and performances of the Ellensburg Dancing Witches accompanied by Black Grenade Entertainment. CWU stages Boo Central from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. There will be activities and treats for kids.


Star Anna video premiere at after-party

Star Anna premieres a video filmed in the Ink Building for a song off her new album during the Mystic Moonlight Trick-or-Treat after party from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, in the Ink Building. The show also includes a showing of a video of Star Anna performing in the KEXP Studio in Seattle and a live performance by Star Anna on Ellensburg Community Radio’s Tiny Stage. Blue Bear Puppet Lab will have a special trick-or-treat haunt and Manastash Media off mini-photoshoots showcasing a vintage-inspired moon by Blue Bear. The event is free and open to the public.


Cold Weather Shelter volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed for the Cold Weather Shelter being offered from Nov. 15 to March 15 at the Western Village off of Alder Street. More information is available on the HopeSource Facebook page.


Ballots being returned

As of Wednesday afternoon, about 38 percent of the Nov. 5 General Election ballots had been returned to the Kittitas County Auditor’s Office. All ballots must be returned by 8 p.m., Nov. 5.


CWU Piano Fest on Friday

Piano duo Mundi George and Guli perform at 7 p.m., Friday, in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall as part of the CWU Piano Fest. The performance features excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” a rare work by Belizean-born composer Errollyn Wallen, and a selection of pieces by Latin American composers. The concert is free and open to the public.


Downtown cleanup is Saturday

The annual Downtown Fall Cleanup is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday. Volunteers will gather at Unity Park. The Ellensburg Downtown Association is organizing the cleanup. People are asked to bring gloves. Other materials are provided.

 

CWU celebrates Dia de los Muertos

CWU celebrates Dia de los Muestos from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday in the Student Union Ballroom. The will be a live mariachi performance by Los Faraones Del Norte, a Folklorico performance, and other activities such as face painting, painting sugar skulls, and more. The event is open to students and the community.

 

SPORTS

Final regular season games for football

In the final week of regular-season high school football for most teams, Ellensburg hosts East Valley at 7 p.m., today, Cle Elum-Roslyn hosts River View at 7 p.m., Friday, and Kittitas welcomes Warden at 1 p.m., Saturday. Easton travels to play Lake Quinault at 1 p.m., Saturday and then finishes the season at Wishkah on Nov. 9.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is rice pilaf topped with braised chicken and squash stew, a dinner roll and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
