Kittitas County Sheriff receives grant for firearm storage

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office received a $140,000 grant for a firearm storage system from the state Attorney General’s Office. The one-time funding is the result of a lawsuit enforcing Washington’s ban on the sale of high-capacity magazines. A King County judge ruled Federal Way Discount Guns violated the law by selling thousands of high-capacity magazines, and the store eventually agreed to pay $3 million to resolve the claims. The Kittitas County Sheriff was one of 12 agencies across the state to receive funding.

Hour reductions at the pool

As of Dec. 2, Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool hours were reduced with the pool closed on Sundays, and closing at 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The adjustments were needed to eliminate $25,000 from the budget, according to city officials. Parks and Recreation staff also will review and adjust department rates and fees in the coming months.
