Ellensburg Police awards honors

The Ellensburg Police Department named its 2024 award recipients. Officer Stephanie Druktenis was named Officer of the Year. EPD Records Clerk Cammie Ricard received the Chief’s Award.  Ricard managed the department’s child passenger safety technician program. Sgt. Josh Bender also received the Chief’s Award.


Valley Theatre presents “Peter and the Star Catcher”

Valley Theatre presents its Winter Play, “Peter and the Star Catcher,” starting 7 p.m. Friday in the IOOF Oddfellows Ballroom. The play is based on the novel by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson. Other 7 p.m. shows are on Saturday, Feb. 13, 14 and 15. There are 2 p.m. performances on Saturday, Sunday and Feb. 15. Tickets are $20 for general admission and can be purchased on the Valley Theatre website.


Dean Nicholson Boulevard closed this week

Dean Nicholson Boulevard will be closed at North Walnut Street from today through Friday for an above-ground well test for the new CWU North Academic Complex project. Traffic will be routed to East 18th Avenue.


Horn quartet to perform at CWU

The horn quartet Genghis Barbie performs at the McIntyre Music Building at 7 p.m., Thursday. The quartet of Freedom Barbie, Velvet Barbie, Tiger Barbie, and Attila the Horn will present a program featuring music by Queen, Whitney Houston, Chappell Roan, Brandi Carlisle, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Imogen Heap, Alison Krauss, Demi Lovato, Stevie Wonder, the Beach Boys, Eurythmics, and more! Tickets are $15 for general admission.


Shaquem Griffin to speak at CWU

Former Seattle Seahawk Shaquem Griffin will speak at Central Washington University at 7 p.m., Feb. 13 in the SURC Ballroom. Griffin made history as the first one-handed player in the National Football League. His presentation is part of Central’s Black History Month celebration and is free and open to the public.


Ribbon cutting at Ink on Friday

The Ink will celebrate its official ribbon cutting at 4 p.m., Friday at 405 N. Main Street. The Ink is the home of Ellensburg Community Radio and the Blue Bear Puppet lab. In the First Friday activities to follow Blue Bear will state a lighted puppet parade and ECR will show videos by local bands including Star Anna, Mark Lanegan and Mark Pickerel and Screaming Trees.


SPORTS

Ellensburg sweeps Othello

The Ellensburg High School basketball teams host Othello tonight with the girls' game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys' at 7 p.m.


Baseball/softball registration is open

Ellensburg Youth Baseball and Softball registration closes on Friday. The league is open to kids ages 4 through 12. Registration information is on the organization’s website.


CWU football holds Signing Day celebration

The CWU football staff will hold a Signing Day Celebration at 5 p.m., Wednesday in the Pat Lacey Hospitality Suite in Nicholson Pavilion.


CWU baseball player earns honor

CWU baseball player Brandham Ponce was recognized for an outstanding weekend of play with the GNAC Baseball Player of the Week Award. In a four-game series against Stanislaus St., Ponce hit five home runs, drove in eight runs and pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up a win. Central swept the series.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is smoked mac and cheese, peas and carrots an peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
