Truck sparks I-90 fire
A brush fire closed Interstate 90 near Vantage for a portion of Monday afternoon. The cause was an electrical fire in a semi-truck. The fire spread to at least 150 acres.
Comment period set for Sun Communities proposal
The comment period for Sun Communities’ 47 Degrees North development preliminary plat application concludes on Aug. 21. After previously determining the application was incomplete, the city of Cle Elum accepted the application as complete on July 20. Specifics on the project are available on the city of Cle Elum’s website. The proposal, which includes residential units, an RV park and a business park has drawn opposition from area residents.
Road work ahead
Ellensburg continues its annual chipsealing project this morning on Bender Road, from Airport Road to the west city limits; on Airport Road/ Walnut Street, from Umptanum Road to Manitoba; and on Ruby Street, from Fifth Avenue to University Way. On Wednesday, the chipsealing schedule includes Capitol Avenue, from Main Street to Maple; Fifth Avenue, from Water Street to Poplar, Pine Street, from Mountain View Avenue to Second Avenue; Pearl Street from Mountain View Avenue to Second Avenue; and Manitoba Avenue, from Main Street to Chestnut. Work will take place between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.

Volleyball players needed
Registration is open for fall adult volleyball. The league is open to all adults and will include recreation and competitive divisions. Registration runs through Sept. 8 and the league begins the week of Sept. 11. For more information, go to the Parks and Recreation portion of the city of Ellensburg’s website.

Bookmobile on last trip of summer
The Ellensburg Bookmobile makes its last rounds of the summer tonight. The Bookmobile will stop at Millpond, Crestview Apartments on Alder Street, Rainier Street and the Hillside Mobile Park between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Teen and adult events at the library this week
The summer's final Adult Summer Reading Program event is an opportunity to make a charcuterie board from Chef KC from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The Teen Summer Reading Program event is a movie extravaganza from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursday at Hal Holmes. Both events are free but require registration.
Music in Park series continues
The Music in the Park series features Nicole and Riley performing at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at North Alder Street Park.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch is a chopped Italian sandwich with olives, tomato, onion, lettuce, roasted peppers, salami, ham and provolone, cucumber salad and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
