Last month, 125 probationary Forest Service employees were laid off in Washington state as part of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency’s mission to slash federal spending. Forty of those were in the Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest. Nine were in the Cle Elum Ranger District.
The City of Cle Elum may avoid potential bankruptcy as Cle Elum and City Heights Holdings have agreed to mediation over the $22.3 million judgment, with the city making an initial $50,000 payment to kickstart the process. The mediation will start on March 24th.
A Thorp woman was sentenced to 30 days in jail in the theft of two pairs of headphones worth nearly $900 from the Wildcat Shop on CWUs campus.

To prepare for Bike Month (May), the City is partnering with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows to collect and recycle bikes and bicycle parts. Bikes and bike parts can be dropped off 7 days a week to the IOOF at 1900 Brick Rd. There is a bicycle donation sign on the shop.

On Saturday, The CWU women’s basketball team beat Chico State 79-73. The men’s team lost to Cal State Dominguez Hills 77-65
Central Washington plays Eastern Oregon tomorrrow in baseball at 4 pm at the CWU baseball field.

LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is Teriyaki Meatballs, Jasmine Rice, Broccoli and Peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
