Good Life presentation
Central Washington University Ethics Lab Good Life Community Discussion kicks off the school year at 6 p.m., today at Hal Holmes Community Center with Connection through Communication. Former CWU professor Phil Backlund leads the presentation which focuses on better connection through communication. Good Life presentations are monthly through the school year.
Brick Mill Road to be closed
Brick Mill Road, from North Willow Street to Game Farm Road will be closed through Wednesday to allow for paving. Drivers should look for detour signs and plan for an alternate route. There also is construction on Pfenning Road from Radio Road to the Vantage Highway.
Search continues for missing man
As of Monday afternoon, Kittitas County Search and Rescue continued its search in the Colockum area for an 88-year-old Wenatchee man suffering from dementia. Searchers were looking for William “Charlie” Martin in a remote area where his car was abandoned near Coluckum Road. Martin had been missing since Sept. 24.
Cheech Marin to appear at Central
CWU presents “An Evening with Cheech Marin: A Life of Art, Culture and Entertainment,” at 7 p.m., Thursday in the McIntyre Music Building as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Marin first came to notice as a member of the Cheech and Chong comedy duo in the early 1970s and has had a career that spans comedy, acting and directing. Marin also is a leading advocate for Chicano art. The presentation is free to the public. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and people are encouraged to arrive early to get a seat.
Central art gallery show opens Thursday
An exhibit at Sarah Spurgeon Gallery featuring the revival of traditional Hawaiian barkcloth, or kappa, opens on Thursday with an artist talk at 5 p.m. in Randall Hall Room 117 and a reception at 5 p.m. at the Spurgeon Gallery. Kapa is a non-woven textile made from the beaten bark of the paper mulberry tree.
Mural ribbon cutting on Friday
As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the First Friday Art Walk, there will be a ribbon cutting for the new Creative District sign/mural to the left of Nuwave Gallery/Fortuity Cellars on Third Avenue at 4 p.m., Friday.
Kittitas County Treasurer’s Office to hold Upper County office hours
The Kittitas County Treasurer’s Office will hold office hours from 1 to 4 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the Upper District Court Building in Cle Elum in October to accept property tax payments.

CWU football player honored
CWU defensive end Chase Loidhamer received the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week award. Loidhamer led the Wildcats football team with three sacks in a 36-0 victory over Western New Mexico on Saturday.
High school sports for the week
In high school sports this week, the Ellensburg volleyball team travels to Othello for a 6:30 match tonight, and hosts Prosser for a 6 p.m. match on Thursday. The Bulldogs cross country team travels to a league meet at Franklin Park in Yakima at 5 p.m., Thursday. The Kittitas volleyball team travels to Cle Elum-Roslyn for a 6:30 p.m. match tonight, and hosts La Salle at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. In addition to the county-rivalry matchup on Tuesday, the Warriors volleyball team travels to Highland on Thursday. The Cle Elum-Roslyn soccer team travels to play La Salle at 6 p.m., today, and the cross country team is at a league meet at 4 p.m., Thursday at Warden.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is beef chili, cornbread and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
