Marine Band plays at CWU on Tuesday
The United States Marine Band, The President’s Own, performs at Nicholson Pavilion on the CWU campus at 7:30 p.m., today. The concert will feature a variety of musical selections, from John Philip Sousa marches to orchestral transcriptions and contemporary compositions. This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required for entry. Tickets can be reserved online through the United States Marine Band website.
Halloween Driving Tour underway
The Ellensburg Haunted House Driving Tour runs through Halloween. The tour is sponsored by David and Erin Chamberlin of Coldwell Banker Central and they kick off the week by giving away goody bags from 5 to 7 p.m., today at Coldwell Banker Central, 508 N. Main St. The Chamberlin Team website includes a map of participating homes, and a link to the Ellensburg Community Radio Halloween music soundtrack. People are encouraged to vote for their favorite homes on The Chamberlin Team website.
Lecture series features impactful women
CWU professor and archivist Julia Stringfellow presents Impactful Women and Their Contribution to Ellensburg as part of the Kittitas County Historical Museum’s Lecture Series at 6 p.m., today, at the museum. Register for free tickets on the museum’s website.
CWU Halloween Concert is on Wednesday
The annual CWU Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. The orchestra performs Halloween-themed music. Musicians will be in costume and spectators are invited to dress for the occasion as well. Tickets are $18 and are available on the CWU Music Department’s website.
Fourth Avenue closure on Wednesday
Fourth Avenue, between Main and Pearl streets, will be closed Wednesday for the installation of rooftop HVAC units on the Fitterer’s Building as part of the remodel project. The closure is scheduled for early morning.
Halloween Eve celebrated
Multiple venues feature Halloween-themed events on Wednesday night. The Sleepers perform at the Rock and Reef Brewing Halloween Party at 5 p.m. Cornerstone Italian Kitchen hosts Witches Night Out with a costume contest and photo booth at 4 p.m. Brandi Bird leads a Halloween-inspired acrylic painting session at Dru Bru-Snoqualmie Pass at 5:30 p.m.
Ellensburg and Central celebrate Halloween
Downtown Ellensburg and Central Washington University feature Halloween events for children on Thursday. The Ellensburg Downtown Association hosts Harvest Fest from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with trick or treating at participating businesses and performances of the Ellensburg Dancing Witches accompanied by Black Grenade Entertainment. CWU hosts Boo Central from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. There will be activities and treats for kids.
Star Anna video premiere at the after-party
Star Anna premieres a video filmed in the Ink Building for a song off her new album during a trick-or-treating after party from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, in the Ink Building. The show also includes a showing of a video of Star Anna performing in the KEXP Studio in Seattle and a live performance by Star Anna on Ellensburg Community Radio’s Tiny Stage. Blue Bear Puppet Lab will have a special trick-or-treat haunt and Manastash Media off mini-photoshoots showcasing a vintage-inspired moon by Blue Bear. The event is free and open to the public.
Park access is to be closed for the season
The Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park access road gate will be closed at the end of the day Sunday, and will remain closed through the winter season. Ellensburg Parks flush toilet restrooms will be closed by Monday, and will not open until next spring. Many Ellensburg Parks are or will be equipped with temporary restrooms during the winter including North Alder Street Park, Mountain View Park, McElroy Park, and the Rotary Park Off-Leash Area. The temporary restroom at Wippel Park will be removed for the winter. Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park and Paul Rogers Park both have vault toilets. Restrooms and entry gates will reopen in the spring.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken enchiladas, roasted corn with peppers and tomatoes and an orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
