Unity Park work impacts traffic
Unity Park construction will cause traffic disruptions throughout the week. Disruptions include narrow lanes of traffic on Fourth Avenue as boulders are set for the water feature, dump truck traffic as topsoil is delivered, concrete placements on Fourth Avenue and Pearl Street to complete the site concrete for the park, and starting at 2 p.m., Wednesday to the end of the day, closure of the alley between Fifth and Fourth avenues to allow for asphalt paving. The park’s grand opening is Oct. 5.
Bite of the Burg set for Tuesday
Ellensburg welcomes Central Washington University students back with the Bite of the Burg from 2 to 5 p.m., today in downtown Ellensburg. Bite of the Burg features food, games, free swag, local business vendors and nonprofit organizations explaining the services available. Wednesday is the first day of classes.
Coffee with Council at Bite of the Burg
The Ellensburg City Council hosts Coffee with the City Council from 2 to 5 p.m., today at the Bite of the Burg. The event features two council members sharing coffee and conversation with the public.
Climate Element open house
The Cle Elum City Council is holding an open house to discuss adding a climate element to its comprehensive plan from 11:30 .m. to 1 p.m., today at the UKC Senior Center. State law requires the city to address the impacts of natural hazards, such as drought, extreme temperatures, extreme precipitation, flooding and wildfires in its comprehensive plan.
Ellensburg School Board meets Wednesday
The Ellensburg School Board meets at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday at Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School. The Morgan Middle School Improvement Plan is included on the agenda.
Urban flooding open house Thursday
An open house to provide information on urban flooding will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday at the City Council Chambers. Residents can share their experiences, voice their concerns, learn about flood risks and ask questions.

Pickleball courts open
The grand opening of the updated pickleball courts at West Ellensburg Park was celebrated this past weekend. The courts are open on a first-come, first-served basis at 900 W. Third Avenue.
Local sports action this week
Fans can catch high school and university sports competitions this week. On the high school level, Ellensburg soccer plays two home games, at 4 p.m. today against Ephrata and at 4 p.m., Thursday versus East Valley. Ellensburg cross country hosts a home meet at 4:30 p.m., Thursday. Ellensburg volleyball hosts Toppenish at 6 p.m., today, and Quincy at 6 p.m., Thursday. The Kittitas volleyball team hosts White Swan at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The Cle Elum-Roslyn volleyball team welcomes La Salle at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The Warriors soccer team hosts Columbia at 6 p.m., Thursday. The Warriors cross country team hosts a league meet at 4 p.m., today.
On the college level, CWU volleyball hosts Montana State Billings at 7 p.m., Thursday.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken and sausage gumbo, rice and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
