City Council restores Pizza Klatch funding
The Ellensburg City Council voted Monday night to restore $1,000 in funding to the Pizza Klatch program at Ellensburg High School. The funding reimburses Helen House for purchasing pizzas for a weekly lunch for LGBTQ-plus students and their allies. The vote reversed action the Council took at its Dec. 2 meeting to replace the council financing with private funds, and came after more than two hours of public testimony from an audience that overflowed the seating capacity of the Council Chambers. The majority of the testimony supported public funding for the Pizza Klatch. Following the Dec. 2 meeting, a GoFundMe account was established for Pizza Klatch with about $7,000 raised. That money will go to support Helen House.
