Tour CWU project Friday
Tours of the North Academic Complex site on the CWU campus for students and staff will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m., Friday. A presentation for community members on the geothermal technology included in the project is from noon to 1 p.m. in Discovery Hall, Room 103. The complex features a 104,200-square-foot structure replacing the Language and Literature building.
Demolition work starts
Crews began demolishing the former drive-through bank structure in downtown Ellensburg on Tuesday as part of the Unity Park project. The schedule calls for work to be completed on the park by early to mid-August.
CWU Wind Ensemble performs today
The Central Washington University Wind Ensemble performs “The Blue Marble” at 7 p.m., today at the McIntyre Music Building. The free concert explores the communicative power of the wind band through contemporary works for winds and percussion.
Coffee with council today
The monthly Coffee with Council is from 9 to 11 a.m., today, at the Ellensburg Adult Activity Center. Two council members will be present for coffee and conversation.
Saxophone showcase is today
The CWU Saxophone Studio Winter Quarter Showcase is at 6 p.m., today in the McIntyre Music Building. Admission is free. The Studio is under the direction of Kendra Wheeler.
Steer I-90 open house tonight
The Steer I-90’s open house is at 6 tonight at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center. The coalition seeks comments on ways to reduce traffic, protect the environment and improve infrastructure on I-90 between Easton and Cle Elum.
4-H volunteer training on Thursday and Friday
Kittitas County 4-H is holding volunteer training sessions on Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s session is from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday’s is from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. New volunteers must attend one of the sessions. Registration information is available on the Kittitas County 4-H Facebook page.
CWU Theatre presents Yakima River Adventure
The CWU Theatre Department’s “Yakima River Adventure” production will include general audience shows and Sensory Shows for autistic individuals and people with profound complexities in the Milo Smith Tower Theatre. In the Sensory Shows, each participant will be seated in a boat, guided by one or two river guides. The experience will last 30 minutes. General audience shows will feature groups of eight to 10 walking through the production. The first general audience show is Thursday and the Sensory Show debuts Saturday. Information on tickets and times is available on the CWU Theatre Department’s website.
Lunch concert on Friday
Kairos and Friends presents a free lunch concert at noon, Friday, at Hal Holmes Community Center. The 40-minute concert features CWU music professors, students and community members performing various short pieces.
Check out the new ECR home on First Friday
Ellensburg Community Radio is holding an open house at its new location in the INK Building at 405 N. Main St. as part of this week’s First Friday festivities. Star Anna will perform and an exhibit of Theo Denner’s concert posters will help promote the Ellensburg Music Preservation Project. Doors open at 5 p.m.

County teams advance at state
This week, the Cle Elum-Roslyn High School and Ellensburg High School girls’ basketball compete in state tournaments. Cle Elum-Roslyn plays Okanogan at 9 a.m., today, in the Spokane Arena in the 2B State Tournament. Ellensburg meets the winner of the Sammamish-White River game at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, in the Yakima SunDome in the 2A State Tournament.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is beef Stroganoff, mixed vegetables and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
