Buskers in the Burg is on Saturday
Buskers in the Burg is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, in downtown Ellensburg. The event features buskers performing through the downtown core. People can vote on their favorite performers with the winner performing on the Unity Park main stage. The event features the Blue Bear Puppet Lab in a roaming puppet production. This year’s program is “A Murder of Crows.” Mini buskers join the event for the first time with three youth performers from Make Music Ellensburg appearing on the main stage.
Ellensburg School Board meets today
The Ellensburg School Board meets at 5:30 p.m., today at Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School. The Morgan Middle School Improvement Plan is on the agenda.
Urban flooding open house Thursday
An open house to provide information on urban flooding will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday at the City Council Chambers. Residents can share their experiences, voice their concerns, learn about flood risks and ask questions.
Unity Park work impacts traffic
Unity Park construction will cause traffic disruptions throughout the week. Disruptions include narrow lanes of traffic on Fourth Avenue as boulders are set for the water feature, dump truck traffic as topsoil is delivered, concrete placements on Fourth Avenue and Pearl Street to complete the site concrete for the park, and starting at 2 p.m., Wednesday to the end of the day, closure of the alley between Fifth and Fourth avenues to allow for asphalt paving. The park’s grand opening is Oct. 5.
Central to honor Dorothy Purser
CWU will honor the late Dorothy Purser in two dedication ceremonies on Friday. A room in CWU’s Health Sciences Building will be dedicated to Purser in a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. The former Purser Hall will be rededicated as Purser Annex as part of the remodeled Nicholson Pavilion at 3 p.m. Purser, who died in 2002, spent 47 years at Central and helped create the university’s paramedicine program in 1974.
Buddy’s Memorial Service is Sunday
A memorial and reception service honoring Buddy, the African gray parrot who lived at the Ellensburg Pet Center for more than 40 years, is at 1 p.m., Sunday, at Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory. The service will include a slide show of Buddy with photos and videos from throughout her life.

Local sports action this week
Fans can catch high school and university sports competitions this week. On the high school level, Ellensburg soccer hosts East Valley at 4 p.m., Thursday. Ellensburg cross country hosts a home meet at 4:30 p.m., Thursday. Ellensburg volleyball hosts Quincy at 6 p.m., Thursday. The Kittitas volleyball team hosts White Swan at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The Cle Elum-Roslyn volleyball team welcomes La Salle at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The Warriors soccer team hosts Columbia at 6 p.m., Thursday.
On the college level, CWU volleyball hosts Montana State Billings at 7 p.m., Thursday. The Wildcats football team plays its first home game of the season against Western New Mexico at 6 p.m., Saturday.
CWU athletes honored
Three CWU athletes earned GNAC Athlete of the Week honors this week. Ramon Rodriguez was named Men’s Runner of the Week after winning the 8K at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational. Payton Conover earned Women’s Runner of the Week honors, and Hannah Stiles earned the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is beef and pork meatloaf mashed potatoes, garlic green beans, a roll and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
